October 2007 I had my Gallbladder removed with 13 stones, one of which was blocking the pancreal bile duct and had caused a stricture in the common bile duct..I have had 3 ERCP procedures one in Nov, Dec26 and April 16, 2008, when the Stent was removed and brushings made with dialation, the tissue samples from the brushings came back this time with cancer, and I am being told that a Whipple procedure needs to be done, I am already bile salts itching, and its driving me crazy. HELP!

" First of all, I'm glad to hear that the Whipple procedure is an option for you. For my mom , it was too late. I do remember her itching so bad. Once she got the stent to open the bile duct her itching decreased. I believe they give her some medication to help but I'm not sure what it was. The itching should go away, at least it did for her. Sorry, that I'm not very helpful. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Beat this thing! "

" Hi,
I was diagnosed Dec 20,2007 with pancreatic cancer. I was itching so bad tearing up my skin and turning jauntice. The itching went away when my body started to release the bile afer I had surgery. They were putting in a Stent when they found the cancer. I opted for the wipple surgery followed by chemo and radiation. I will not lie to you, the surgery is a major thing to have and takes along time to recover, but I foung the options where much better and survival rate higher. I am now looking for other people who are going thru the same as I am to share what we are experincing physicaly and emoitionly. I can not relate with other cancer such as Breast, due to the different issues we face with this type of cancer.
My best wisher to you so hang in there and fight back.
Vicki "

" Hi- I have Stage 4B Pancreatic Cancer-so a Whipple procedure was not considered for me. Any blockage of the bile duct can cause itching as a side effect.
. My advice-is find the Best surgeon you can for the Whipple procedure. Experience counts when a surgeon does this procedure. Good luck
