Ondansetron (Zofran - has anyone taken this?
Watch this

I was just prescribed several anti-nausea meds before my next round of chemo starts. One of them is Ondansetron (generic Zofran). Just wondered if anyone else has taken this drug and if it worked for them. I had terrible nausea during the last round of chemo and am really hoping to avoid it this time. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! LuEllen

" Yes, I took it. I found it worked very well for me. I also took Metoclopramide and a third one I can't think of the name, but it was only three pills you took three days following chemo. I had very little nausea. "

" I have Ondansetron too.. at first I was only given one tablet to take the morning after chemo plus domperidom three times a day.. This did nothing for me and I was very sick.. so I went back to the hospital and they gave me tree days supply of Ondansetron.. one am and one pm.. with cyclazine to take in between if needed.. this worked very well.. I now take home five days supply of ondansetron and the cylazine.. I can have up to three cyclazine a day.. but only take it if I begin to feel sick.. My doctor was worried that I would get constipated with the ondansetron.. but I've been careful.. drinking lots and eating fig rolls, ( which taste good after chemo too) only very slightly constipated but no dreadful nausea.. I don't usually need to take five days of it.. but it's reassuring to have it around.. good luck with it.. I find it very effective.. xxx "

" Don't want to sound like the odd one out, but Zofran was not affective for me. I wound up back in the hospital with IV drugs...only way that I wouldn't vomit. I guess it might have been the cisplatin in the IP port? I am definitely going to get different drugs this time!

" Well, I have an entire array of anti-nausea meds to try, and Zofran is #3 on the list (if the others don't work). Plus I still have my 3-pack of Emend (very expensive stuff, I'm surprised even my insurance covers it) which I believe really does help. I'm also switching to Carboplatin this round which the onc. tells me is easier to tolerate and the nausea side effect is substantially reduced. So I'm crossing my fingers! "

" I have had Zofran in combination with Emmend and these work well. My challenge has been after the three days of this combination (the as needed days as they term them)and they tried to replace it with Compazine (which did not work) and then Phenergan (which works, but puts you to sleep!) This month they are back to the Zofran for longer. I will let you know how the experiment goes.

" Thanks Kellie. I found the Compazine didn't work either; have the 3-day pack of Emend, but what to do after that? I have Phenergen as well as the generic Zofran, plus all kinds of stuff to try if those don't work. Let me know how things go with you and I'll do the same. Have a great day xxxx LuEllen "

" Zofran gave me terrible headaches. Was switched to Anzemet (just as expensive) but worked for me really well. Good luck!
