Does/has anyone else had religious obsessions?

I used to obsess over capitalizing biblical words like God, Jesus, etc. I was so afraid that I would go to Hell if I didn't use proper capitalization for these words.

Also, has anyone had any sexual obsessions relating to biblical characters? I use to have intrusive thoughts about Jesus wanting to have sex with me. Weird, I know. It took me 5 years to tell my therapist that.

If you have/do have religious obsessions, were you raised in a religious environment? I was raised very religious.

" Well, I did at one time have religious obsessions, but they weren't sexual. I would have thoughts "pop" into my head saying if I didn't do this or that then I was a devil worshiper, but if I did do this or that then I wasn't and that ment that I was still a christian. I wasn't raised in a religious home, but I do believe in God, so those obsessions really bothered me. I don't have them any more. When I told my husband about them, they went away and now my obsessions are different. "

" I was raised Catholic and I do have some religious obsessions. I have the capitalization thing....God, Jesus, He, etc. I also have an obsessive fear of going to Hell and being trapped in Pergatory. No sexual-religious obsessions though...thank God. "

" I have the same problems. I used to always have to capitalize the "G" is God and the "J" in Jesus cause I thought if I didnt I wasnt shoing respect. But I just try to look over things like that. I dont think God really cares if you capitalize his name or not. But its just OCD making us feel that way. I also used to have sexual or impure thoughts too about Jesus, but I figure those come from the devil and OCD. And I try to brush them off and ask God to forgive me for those kinda thoughts, even though I dont mean to think them. Everytime I have impure thoughts about Jesus or God, I alway try to rebuke satan. It usually works. "

" Hi everyone im brewie. I wanted to say a big hi and hello to everyone :)
If anyone needs to talk please let me know.
I have lived with ocd for 25 years now, and there is alot i can help with
from depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks, hypocondriac, fear, doubts, worry, plaguing thoughts, obsessions, compulsions, bad twisted thoughts, fear, fear fear. Notice how fear is up here alot, and if you look really close fear is in every word i discribed.
You cant live with a disorder for this long and not figure a few things out.

I know how scared some of you might feel. Please dont be afraid.
I would like to try and help if i can for you to understand what your ocd is doing to you.
ocd is different for everyone. It feeds off of your own unique personality. The key is to figure out what your ocd does to you. And then you can deal with it.
So please if anyone needs to talk, i would love to help
Brewie "

" Yes. This kind of ocd had been called scrupulosity.
Names...
In anycase i would like to say that ocd is somewhat of a mysterious disorder and there appears no one model to explain it.
Medical models speak of brain chemistry.
Physiological models speak of thinking/chemical interactions etc.
Anthropological models speak of primitive ruminations that all humans inherit.
One model i have been exploring since we are dealing with this topic of religion is a kind of Spirit perspective.
Spirits of all kinds are said to exist in the very plane in which we live and can becoame "guests" if you will to persons who either willingly or in most cases UNwillingly are exposed to them.
In cases where there is suffering it appears to be a tormenting " spirit. I've done a LOt of research and spoken with many spiritual workers and there seems to be much evidence of "obsessive spirits."
Jesus Christ was tempted by the darkest of spirits- SAtan while in the desert. It was also written in the bible that he cast out demons from persons . Buddha conquered Maya (like Satan)Therea re many other accounts in other paths.Even some new age paths believe in spirits. In anycase it is believed that the mentality of the spirit attempts to live through a person and compel the person to think/act/feel/ as it does so that it may "relive" as it did while a person on this earth plane.
All peoiple are believed to be affected by some kinds and numbers of theses spirits.
They are not necessarily purely evil, some are suffering from extreme sadness, confusion, doubt, hatred, hurt etc .It appears some people are more prone to these spirits than others.
From my experience I have noticed that persons of higher sensitivity (emotionally, mentally, etc)usually have higher risks of developing soem kind of disorder which in this case is ocd.
Having said that, the same approach to helping oneself may apply.
If we fall into fear the ocd gets worse.
Fear weakens the mind and in the medical models creates stress and higher frequency of thought leading to more stress and fear.
In the spirit model we give power to something other than ourselves.
It isnt scary because we are all in the same world.
We just have to learn how to help ourselves and the spirits by being closer to our true selves and god.
As we learn they learn.
As we heal so they heal.
It is work for human beings to do but it will come together in time if we persist and learn. "

" I used to have the same sexual/religous obsessions when i was a little kid. I was brought up catholic. they eventually stopped after a while i guess i grew out of them but i think (just my opinion) that if you treat these thoughts from a spiritual point of view you are giving them more strength. I think you should treat them as nothing more than ocd, just an illnes, that way you are not a bad person, you are not going to hell, god is not mad at you and i think this makes the process of overcoming the obsessions a little easier. anyways just trying to help. hope you feel better, I believe that we are all stronger than this "
