Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

I have decided to start this discussion to try and get some advice for my sister. She has recently started Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She just came back from her second session today and was very upset. The things she discussed with her therapist last week were discussed under the assumption that the information would be kept cofidential, however the therapist went off and decided to speak to someone else about her session. He told her today that he had shared her information given in confidence, and as a result she has lost all trust in him. I would just like to ask anyone who has had the same therapy, or anyone who knows the rules of confidentiality, if the therapist is actually allowed to share this information with others. I would appreciate any responses to this matter. Thank you.

" I know my daughter's therapist has confided in other professionals for advice or other ideas. He was always up front with us about this. We never found out after the fact that he had sought the advice of others. Personally, I think CBT is a good thing. Depending on the severity of the OCD, it can take a while to see results. I know many rituals use to consume my daughter's time. Now she no longer engages in washing, checking, counting and organization rituals because of CBT. "

" In my state my therphist can't discuss anything about me unless i give written consent for her to do so...

Now the exception is if i was going to harm myself or wanted to do someone else in then she has the right to talk with others..

other then that she can't condife in anyone.

I think this therphist might have broke that law of confidental with her clinet i look into it...

And with her being so upset after she came back does not sound like the right thing was done. "
