I try to walk 3 miles at least each time I walk. I bought a treadmill so that I can track my speed and my distance. You can also buy a pedometer to count your distance in steps when walking outside. Try to do a minimum of 1 hour cardio walking at a brisk pace. And do this at least 3-4 times per week.

Do what you physically can. I walk about 20 minutes 4 times a week. As I get stronger I'm going to increase the time. I'm shooting for an hour eventruelly.

When I started to walk I did it for 15 minutes three times a day.. Now I walk from 2-5 miles per day.. I love to walk and my doggie is loving it too. She gives me that look and I have to walk her now..
I walk first thing when I wake up, I walk after lunch and walk before bed.. I go from 1-3 miles at each time depending if I have time.. Go slow and gradually increase. You will be amazed at how fast you can become..

I think you need to think about the speed of walking as well as the duration and distance. I have been told that I should walk fast enough that I am a little out of breath by the end while still managing to enjoy the walk and not powerwalking or anything like that. However, I tend to try and take my mind off the fact I am walking and exercising by walking to a destination, such as a friend's house or the shops, or walking part of the way home from work. This is why I prefer walking to other exercise such as the gym, which seems pointless to me. I think they should invent a way of using people's exercise to power the machines as well as the TV or radio if people want that - it would mean there was a point to the exercise and it would be better for the environment. Anyway, hope some of this helps.

I WALK 30 MINUTES A DAY ON A TREADMIL AND IF ITS NICE OUTSIDE I WALK AS FAR AS MY BODY WILL ALLOW ME TO WALK.THIS IS AN EVERYDAY THING FOR ME.

I was told once "walk fast enough you could keep a conversation, but not sing a song"
And incline, speed, etc all can affect it. I would just walk around the block- see if you feel you can do it again. Raise the amount a little every few times- walk a new path. I know listening to music really helps me not-focus on the walking element.
