A few people I know have told me that when taking a multivitamin I need to make sure its not just any over the counter kind because certain ones will not be absorbed into my system..
I even said "what about Centrum?", I was told that would not work either. One of the people I talked to was a nutritionist..but I still have a hard time believing this. Does anyone know the truth about this? Posted on 03/26/08, 10:03 pm |

It is all in how your vitamin is made.. most are synthetic.. some are heated (heating takes away a lot of the nutrients) and some are what they called cold pressed.. those are the best. Hope that helps!

I don't know about Centrum but I do know I used the pill forms didn't get much if any results. I started using inonic liquids with fulvates and it made all of the difference. I had a friend that tested his pill forms of vitamins in the oven and he said, "Just a black spot" due to the coating used on the vitamin. Maybe you can try putting in warm water and see if it disolves. From what I understand the liquids go straight into the system and does not have to go to the liver for prosessing. Hope this helps.

A very important factor to search for when choosing a vitamin is where it was derived from. There are many grades of vitamins on the market where vitamins are actually derived from sedimentary rock. Yeah, need I say more?
You need a vitamin that was derived from a food.

I don't know about centrum, but I do know that certain forms of synthetic vitamins are not absorbed, yes. Calcium for example... some forms are absorbed, others are not and can cause trouble of developing spurs and whatnot. I was once told to test a calcium supplement by placing it in water, shaking it, and then setting it aside for like 20 minutes, and if it settles as a residue at the bottom, it is not an absorbable form. I don't know how true that was, but I do know that OJ with calcium added leaves a residue, and I stay away from it. Nothing about oranges is supposed to give you calcium anyway... so whats the deal with that! Anyway....
the brand that I swear by is called "rainbow light" ... theres are the only vitamins I will take, and obviously the only ones I will give my kids, too. I'm sure there are others out there that are equally as good, but after finding this line, I didn't feel the need to keep looking....

We hear lots about vitamins but little about minerals. From what I have learned vitamins will not and cannot perform without minerals. Senate Document #264 states the very best mineral/vitamin supplements are in the collidal form. These are liquid and can be used by the cells properly. I can share a website for you to read this article if you would like and hopeful it will have some answers for you.

I like Rainbow Light's Advance Enzymes. They are in capsules. My ND said only to take capsules, not tablets. The binders can prevent breakdown and absorption. Someone sent me a Dr's report on a whole slew of brands of vitmains, and it ranked Usana as #1. I'm using the one that came in in the Top 5 made by Source Naturals. It's called Life Force.
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetail... I get all my supplements at iHerb, great prices and service. Right now that are offering $5 off to new customers too! Just use the coupon KAT800 when you check out.

I just checked the report, they are right about Centrum, it scored 3-5% absorption. They ranked 442 out of 510, down toward the bottom of the list!
One a Day was down there too. Rainbow Light had 5 formulas in the test, and scored 1-10, 2-40 and 2-60% absorptions. Source Naturals did good on Life Force, but other formulas scroed 30-60%, and one got a 7.5% Thorne Research, sold by professionals, ie, ND's, did not fare well, 38-47%. My ND put me on those. I took myself off. If you want me to look up your brand, just ask and I'll se if it is there, I'll need the formula's name as well.

my mom takes Centrum from cus the dr told her to then agian she cant eat or drink fromt eh cow and few otehr foods so thats why she takes it to get what what she needs that she would get from eattign and drinking the foods that she cant have. tbh multivitamin are kind of pointless unless you are lackingy in something ro cant intake foods that you normy would get the vitamins from. your body tends to crave foods that have the vitm.s that you need if you are lackying or your body has less of. its way of makeing sure you get them in your body.
