I was diagnosed with NHLlast week so this is all totally new for me. I have been suffering with Chronic Pain, Depression, PTSD for the past 3 yrs. This has hit me a sledgehammer. I don't know what to say, my sisters don't know what to say. I have placed my life in G-DS hands, I'm totally helpless in front of this one. I've been told my case is marginal and there's a good chance it can be cured, with chemo. It's not marginal for me, especially taking into consideration my previous problems.
I'm 50 yrs old and I live in Montreal. Hello Everyone, Gary

" Hi Gary,

I just found you today. My husband, age 36 at the time (now 37) went through similar chemo as you and has been in remission since Aug '06. He is very afraid of relapse. Doc said to expect relapse within 2-10 years! That didn't settle well with us. Treatment and drugs get better over the years so we're counting on that. I wish you all the best and to find that inner strength to beat NHL.

Carrie (& Troy)

P.S. I got my husband a t-shirt that reads "I survived cancer and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!" "

" Thank you Carrie (&Troy) for your message. Do you know what kind of treatment he had? The one II had is called R-CHOP. He mosy probably had the same. I'm surprised a doctor said that. The chances today are so good with the newer drugs, Ritiximab, etc.
Troy I will be thinking of you. Enjoy life today, don't worry about relapses, it is out of your control in all cases. NHL is one of the most curable of all cancers. In G-D we trust, all others pay cash!
Have a nice day, Gary "

" Yes, I think that was they type of chemo he was on. At his follow-up appointment the doc mentioned that they are now doing an every 6 month Rituxan maintenance dose to help keep the NHL away. It was too late for Troy to start that regimen because it had been longer than 6 months since his last dose of chemo. Will you be considering that? "

" CarrieAnn I have no idea. It's too far away to think about. My doctor has said nothing about it. I tend to live hour to hour, I'm sure Troy knows what I'm talking about. I feel bad that Troy is so young to have this awful disease. I don't worry about the future, if I do I'll miss everything that's happening in the present. My life is in G-DS hands.
Have a nice one, Gary "

" Hi, everyone... I'm new to this group, too... I was diagnosed with NHL in April and I'm just halfway through my chemo. I'm taking Rituxan CHOP, too. I was quite interested in CarrieAnn's statement about her husband getting Rituxan alone every 6 months after his treatment was over. I've written that down in my little book of questions to ask my doctor as this is my "halfway point" in my treatment and we've very lightly begun to discuss the future. Also, my lymphoma is in my bone marrow. does anyone else have this type of lymphoma? "

" Hi Gary, I have MALT lymphoma and I started last year with rituximab alone. I would love to hear from anyone else who has parotid MALT.
Best of luck. Susan

Site Navigation Marginal Zone Lymphomas

Marginal zone lymphomas (MZL) are indolent B-cell lymphomas. When marginal zone lymphomas involve the lymph nodes they are called nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphomas whereas when they involve places outside the lymph nodes (gastrointestinal tract, thyroid, breast, or skin) they are called mucosa-associated lymphatic tissue lymphomas (MALT or MALToma). Splenic (in the spleen) Marginal zone lymphomas are considered a third separate type. Together they represent less than 20% of all lymphomas.

Under the new WHO Lymphoma Classification System (2001), all three types of Marginal Zone Lymphoma are considered distinct entities and may be treated and studied separately.

" Gary, i have indolent follicular NHL and very much feel like I have been hit with a sledgehammer as well. I'd say my previous problems are very similar to yours, I was diagnosed a couple of years ago. I have been told that there is no cure for mine, but so far I am doing fairly well. I am on watch and wait, and thus far have had no treatments except surgery. I just want you to know you are not alone, and that putting it in Gods hands is what I have done and seems to be working. Take care! "
