so last Wednesday I finally had reconstructive surgery on my face to repair some damage to the bone structure and soft tissue caused by NF. My surgeon Dr. McKay McKinnon,(there was a special about him on TV a few months ago) appears to have done a wonderful job! (although i won't know to what extent until after the stitches come out tomorrow and more swelling goes down) the surgery itself went very well, a little longer than anticipated, due to a minor complication. But since i was doing so well and highly motivated to get out of the hospital as quickly as possible, I was able to go home the following evening ( Dr. McKinnon was still a little reluctant to let me go home a day earlier than he anticipated)

At my first follow up appointment earlier this week, my parents and I got to talking with some of the other patients in the waiting room, and it seems that people are comming from all over the US to see him. I was the only one from the chicago area sitting there. the others came from florida, michigan and texas. when I first met Dr. McKinnon he didn't seem too friendly and a little too businesslike, but at my follow up appointment he seemed to warm up a lot. Anyway if you are looking for a plastic or reconstructive surgeon, I would highly recommend Dr. McKinnon! Please let me know if you would like his contact info.
