Question for everyone about EDS

EDS (Excessive Daytime Sleepiness) is one symptom of N. I was diagnosed with N 10 years ago and have daily sleep attacks now for about 18 months. I'm curious to know if anyone finds that they experience EDS or sleep attacks during the evening hours? Say between 5pm to 10pm. I do not, and I'm curious to know if N simply effects us only during daytime hours?

Thanks!!!

" i do have a problem usually right after i eat dinner. If i get near the couch, i'm basically out like a light for several hours, then something usually wakes me to remind me I hadn't done the dishes yet. "

" I am gonna say that it depends on our daily schedules. I have different times of sleepiness now than what I had while I was working. And of course it totally depends on what ind of sleep I get. I have definately learned to make better choices in my life as far as sleep is concerned. THE DISHES CAN WAIT TIL TOMORROW.... "

" I do. I generally feel tired all day. Sometimes I don't feel as bad around 4ish, but then I just feel knackered again and often have sleep attacks. "

" Answers would seem to indicate that N does effect ppl during evenings hours as well as daytime hours. The symptom of EDS may be mis-leading in that some could take it to mean N only effects ppl during daytime hours. In my case N hits me daily but only during the daytime. After 4 or 5 pm I seem to do alright without using medication.

Thanks for your replies. "

" Most of the time for me these EDS attacks come on randomly except for between 3-5 every afternoon. When my schedule was different I would schedule anp during that time, but now at work I'm almost useless after 3:00. I usually get another attack around 8 or 9. A short nap is all I can get in before climbing into bed at midnight. "

" It depends on when I get up and when I take a nap.

On a good day... I have learned to take a scheduled nap within 6-8 hours after I awake in the morning. If I wait until my body crashes and goes to sleep without my permission then I am more likely to experience a cataplexy attack or sleep for hours. Scheduling my naps gives me control. It is kind of like putting your babies on a napping schedule instead of letting them run wide open and crying themselves to sleep from exhaustion.

If I take a scheduled nap, I am usually fine in the evenings. If I miss my nap for some reason, and then sit down after supper to watch TV with my hubby, I drift on and off until bed-time. "

" By about 10.30pm though i am often wide awake, i can't just have a short nap though in sleep attack time, if i go to sleep i need at least an hour, it's weird though, yesterday afternoon i felt really sleepy but didn't get chance for nap, and then i came awake and havent slept all night, it's 7am now and i'll prob stay awake all day now, my meds are all over the place at the moment though, as i've got so much stress and neck/shoulder pain so i don't think my body or head know what's going on.
