Lap band surgery

Ok I want a lap band surgery, which is a less invasive, less risky surgical procedure than gastric bypass. Both are to lose weight. I am a 6 ft tall woman, and recently stepped on the scales in horror, I am weighing in at 245 lbs, the most for me EVER! I carry my weight pretty well due to my height, but that doesn't make right, provide me with much comfort. If just diet and excersise were the answser, I would have already succeeded at those attempts. So the lap band is my only hope as far as I can see. One problem....the commercial for is states it is not for people with autoimmune diseases.. Ughhh! I guess surgeries that aren't really necessary, us MS'ers should avoid. But what is a person to do? This extra weight isn't good for my BP or my heart. Before any "skinny" people reply "Well just stop eating" Let me tell you that sounds easy to some, but not me. My answer to that is....some people smoke, some people take drugs, some are sex addicts....I love food! A trip to the dentist last year I believe caused my second attack ever...first of all I am terrified of dentists, and novacaine and me do not do well together, that stuff in novacaine... Epinephrine (spelled wrong I know) I have a bad reaction every time, my BP spikes bigtime, and I have a racing heart rate from it also. This does happen in some people I am told. So how would I ever have a surgery that could make me healthier if I cant even handle going to the dentist? Help me please!

" I have a friend considering the surgery also after her sister has had it. Her sister has lost a lot of weight but is still a big girl. Same with an old boss of mine who is also my friend. She lost alot quickly and she is still a big girl though but very short.
I found the hardest thing was to watch my old boss bringing up food that "Got stuck".
My friends sister can't eat certain things now either but I think the benefit is that you are more likely to make healthier choices in what is eaten.

I have no direct experience with it but thought you may aprreciate a response in regards to some experiences.
Good luck with it all "

" first..the dentist...grin..as i have first hand experience with that one..lol..
get your dentist to take your blood pressure when you first get there..any dentist worth going to will not work on you at all if your blood pressue is to high...they will send you back home with a script for a sedative to take for the next appt.
the last time i had a dentist appt. i was sent home with a script for a sleeping pill and for two valium to take before the appt...and then when i came i i was given the gas during the procedure...call around for a dentist that works with people who are terrified of dentists ...there are some out there hon...smile...you are not alone...grin

second..talk to your dr about the lap band surgry....i am in canada but my father is aprox.. 450 pounds and has a heart issue..not a huge one but a slight one...and a arthritus issue that he takes daily prednisone for...it is a strange type of arthritus... and they are scheduling the lap band surgery after he see the surgeron in sept...they are going ahead with the sugery because of his weight and the strain it is putting on his heart and his joints...so there are dr.s out there who understand the need for it...and that the risk sometimes outweighs ...shit forgot the rest of the sentance but you know what i mean to say..grin...

hugs
heather "

" I have RRMS and will be getting Rn&Y on Wens the 30th. I wanted the band at first but then read these reports you are talking about; that the band isnt good for people with autoimmune disorders. This is one of the reasons why I'm getting the gastric. Yet when I talked with my WLS surgeon he said there hasnt been any reports that he knows of that says the band isnt good for someone with MS. My surgeron is Dr. Waldrep from Sacramento. he knows his WLS stuff. I do know some people that have gotten the lap band with MS. Go to obesityhelp.com..register and add a post about the lap band and MS. You can then talk with others that have had this surgery. Hit me up if you need anything or have more quesions. "

" I am 6ft tall 220 diabetic also, I lost 10 pounds by cutting out white foods for 2 weeks, it can be done, I am an emotional eater also but I make ever effort to control. My first ms attach happened after I had surgery so I would really think about it before I do. Good Luck, weight control is like another job. "

" I had gastric bypass in Aug of 2006 and suffered a big relapse. At the time we had no idea what it was as I wasn't diagnosed yet, but I wasn't able to swallow without the feeling of suffocating for 8 weeks or more, pain factor was big (I suffer from chronic pain), etc. I went to the gym for 4 weeks as well to work off the fat and keep my skin elastic, but the heat of exercising made me nearly pass out, etc. I was grateful to have had it, but out of the 80lb weight loss, I regained 20 lbs due to inactivity. Think carefully about it. "
