" Why does it work with some and not others with MS?? Doctors can not give you a real reason...may say it reduces inflammation but if that was the whole story it would help all MS patients. I created the flowchart below. It shows how Estriol is required for your LIVER to produced the transporter proteins to bring vitamins (ie retinolbinding protein (RPB) for vitamin A, HP protein for B12, etc)
http://www.faqs.org/nutrition/Smi-...

into your body so your cells can use the vitamins. If your liver does not have necessary ingrediants like estriol to make these transporter proteins "buses" to bring vitamins into the body your cells starve for certain nutrients. They would be unable to replicate and repair themselves leading to degenerative damage. Seems like if you had your Estriol levels checked and they are low looking into estriol studies might really be for you. HOWEVER if you do not have low estriol then this is not your root problem.

The more I read about many of these vitamins the more a few things keep "popping up". Things like proper fat absorption is needed to avoid vitamin deficiencies ie Vitamins E, A, K and D. D of course is needed for Calcium and Bcomplex vitamins to work. B complex vitamin deficiencies being tied to dementia..similar to Brain fog experienced by some with MS.

Then I read recently about good gut bacteria being tied to how bile acids(produced by liver) effect fat absorption.

I do not think good gut bacteria is a silver bullet the same way I do not think Estriol is a silver bullet. I believe that if my theory of Malabsorption is correct that different people will have different problems requiring different mitigating factors.

Kinda like insulin is NOT the silver bullet for diabetes..it is a mitigating factor. If you know you have diabetes you take insulin for the rest of your life. I believe MS and RA are more complicated and for some it may be low hormone of Estriol may reduce absorption..due to inability to transport enough vitamins into the body via Liver proteins that can no longer be produced without more Estriol. If this is the case a person's root cause is estriol and this mitigating factor would have to be taken for the rest of your life. IN DIFFERENT people they have a DIFFERENT issue. They may be assisted by certain good gut bacteria or bypassing gut absorption and taking vitamins sublingually(via spray in the mouth that goes dierectly to bloodstream). Or they may need to take a breakdown of a vitamin like D3 if their skin can not activate D3 or their LIVER can not break it down to 25 hydroxVit D OR their kidney can not further break it down into 125 hydroxvit D.

VitD or B12 flowcharts

If you think any of this MAY pertain to your health. THEN seek a physician's care and ask for further testing.

" interesting read...i know estriol is produced during pregnancy and that it can protect from MS at that time...that's one of the reasons they are looking into it. "

" Yes, there are 3 kinds of estrogen, estriol is the "good" kind and you don't need much of it. Have read in studies that changing hormone replacement with this type of estrogen dropped incidance of cancer seen with different estrogen replacement.

Anywho.. You are also right they have found estriol reduces MS problems. The Original post at the very top has 3 links to this research. However, they do not have a REASON why it helps some and not others.

I am theorizing that because your liver needs estriol for it to make transporter proteins (the buses that transport vitamins into your body) that without estriol you can NOT make these proteins and your have malnurishment of the cells.
IF you have LOW estriol seems like taking more should help you.
IF you do NOT have low estriol seems like this is not a root problem and you may have another issue.
Maybe instead of waiting for additional studies JUST ASK YOUR DOCTOR to run a test and find out if you are LOW in Estriol. Seems like if it is this should be addressed.

-Best Wishes to all of you "
