I am going to be prescribed something for my fatigue but my insurance company doesn't cover Provigil. Can anyone tell me any other drugs that have a generic and seem to work well? Thanks for all the support so far I wouldn't have made it wilthout all the responses.

" As I said on another post, one of the benefits of low dose naltrexone is a great decrease in fatigue. It costs from $20-$50 a month. "

" Sometimes an appeal works, or you can go to NeedyMeds.com and see if there is any way you can get it subsidized. Some people have success with amantadine. Rittelin is more expensive. One article I read, and you cna locate it by googling "multiple sclerosis aspirin", says 1,300 mg per day of aspirin is better than taking provigil, but never take aspirin in lg doses without first checking with your physician because it causes your blood to be thinned. " I have been prescribed amantidine (sp?) for fatigue but instead it gave me lots of energy along with red blotches. Since summer was right around the corner I was then prescibed provigil. I haven't noticed any great bursts of energy from it. Then I a daily exercise program. Even though it sounds odd, exercise does increase your motabilism and energy. "

" Same thing when my dr. prescribed Provigil for depression. After the doctor wrote an appeal, they agreed to cover.

Also, try a B-Complex 100mg with food every day. Seems to help with my energy levels.

Try to avoid sugar--this adds to fatigue.

Make sure your thyroid is working correctly. Alot of MSer's have low thyroids. This would contribute to low energy, cold hands/feet, hair loss, dry skin, depression, weight gain, constipation.

Good luck.

" Happened to me too. As BeverlyH stated, have your doctor send in an appeal. My doctor did and the prescription was approved. Insurance companies have a way of rejecting medications where the need isn't obvious. Fatigue caused by MS isn't recognized by insurance companies "on paper". When your doctor appeals and lets them know why you need it, the insurance company should approve it. Give it a try. "

" I too take a generic form of Adderall. Even if my insurance did cover it, the co-pay would have been $100. Way too much for me. My generic Adderall is $8. Good Luck! Sis "
