BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Mylan Inc. said Tuesday that it has licensed the distribution rights to most major global markets for a generic version of Israeli drugmaker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' Copaxone, a leading treatment for multiple sclerosis. The generic version, which is produced by Indian drugmaker Natco Pharma Ltd., is already being sold in India and the Ukraine. Under the deal, Pittsburgh, Penn.-based Mylan will have the right to market the product in the U.S., Australia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and most major European markets. Teva's Copaxone is not slated to lose patent protection in the U.S. until around 2014. Israeli-traded shares of Teva traded lower on the news.

" That's cool news! I read in a NMSS rag a while back that the CRAB/s most likely wouldn't be generic because they are genetically engineered...did you read find anything about the generic's effectiveness vs the name brand's? "
