Maggiems, I drink all kinds of that stuff, in my coffee, my tea and in my sodas. I have heard many people, not MS people specifically, who have benefitted from quitting the artificial sweeteners. My theory is that it's that they have a real sensitivity, like an allergy, to aspartame, which seems to affect their muscles or joints.

I drink diet pepsi, and my MS has not been progressive. But I have heard of others who have given it up, and gotten better. Leanna

I noticed that when I stoped drinking diet sodas my symptoms decreased. I was able to walk better was the most prominent change. I was tested for asparatame allergy, but nothing showed up. Give it up for a couple weeks and see if you feel better. If not, coke zero wont hurt you. If you feel better, maybe it's time to go back to reg. coke!

I try to stay away from anything that is artificial. It is very hard to do with all of the prepackaged foods. I read every label. Even things that are called natural are not really. I've found that MSG seems to not be a good thing for me, but it is often listed as something else like natural flavorings, autohydrolyzed yeast, etc. I just drink water, or iced tea, or tea. I drank gallons of TAB when I was a teenager which had the original (i think saccharine) artificail sweetener in it. I do wonder if it contributed to health issues. Why dump all that stuff into your body if you can avoid it?

I have avoided artificial sweeteners because they taste like crud. If I can't have sugar, I'll drink water. My husband brought out a Coke Zero when I sent him in for a Coke. I took one drink, put it in the cup holder and let it go warm. Yuck!!
