I'm new here. Nice to meet all of you. I wrote a journal entry and I would love for those of you who have the time to offer me advice to read it and send any suggestions my way. :) I believe humor heals the soul so I wanted to say hello with a funny, yet slightly humiliating story.
My son drove me to the dr. the other day ( I can't drive right now). I, being so darned independent told him that I was fine to drive myself home, so he headed off with his friends. I drove home allright...more like 20mph in a 55mph zone because my world was rocking...and then, almost home a cop appeared in rearview. I pulled over before the lights went on. Oh...my tags need to be updated but I haven't had the ability to get there....It was all good until I spoke. You see, I walk like I'm drunk, speak like I'm drunk, see like a drunk, and move like I'm drunk...and the officer said "Ma'am are you on medications? as I was trying to explain to him how I was driving myself home from the docs....I said, "No sir, it's my brain." That's all that I could get out! He showed him my docs neuro card as a way to prove I should not go to jail for a DUI! Okay..so I didn't go to jail...whew...but he did ask me like three times if he could please call someone to take me home! I made it home and haven't driven since. Oh, a day in the life.....:) Hope to get to know all of you soon! Posted on 05/01/08, 10:05 am |

Welcome!!! I'm sorry you are having such a bad time :( This is a nice site to come to and learn, vent or meet people that understand what we are going through.

Gave up driving a couple of years ago when I realized it just wasn't safe for myself or the world around me. Couldn't judge distance or speed. What a hard thing to give up, but one has to be responsible. Still miss driving & wonder what I'll have to give up next.

Hey Angela, welcome. I still drive sometimes, but I almost gave it up when I got so confused driving to my Mom's house last year that I got lost. She's lived in the same house for 20 years...LOL. It freaked me out!
Welcome to the family. xoxo Jen

One of my first things that happened to me was with driving. Although I didn't know why I did this at the time - I wasn't diagnosed until 4 years later. I was on my way to my daughters basketball game. It was the same place she played the day before (and many times in previous years). I was taking the wrong road for about one mile before I realized it. I then turned around and headed the right direction but in the wrong lane. I went many miles before I saw a car coming at me and I thought, "What is this idiot doing? He's in my lane." Then I realized 'I was the idiot!' Scary then but I can laugh at it now.
Welcome to DS!

Hi and welcome. I still drive but only into town for groceries, etc. I'm sorry you have a hard time driving but sure do understand. I think your story is sad and humiliating. You poor thing.
It's so hard to let go and let others help. I think you will like it here. Lots of nice people and good information. Marti

Hey!
Sorry, but I think my story is of strength & courage. One where I never stop trying to be positive & deal with the MS monster. I've recently started walking with a cane after years in a chair. So, don't pity me.
