What does Heat do to you?

It looks like I may get a project for work in Central CA which can be quite hot in the summer.

It was pointed out that the buildings where I would be working are airconditioned.

Will this be enough?

If I get hot going from car to office, does the air reset my core temperature soon enough to avoid MS complications?

I know some of you live in areas that get quite hot. Is it a problem if you're going from one air conditioned place to another?

" Can your car be cooled before you leave the office or house. There are things that can do that for you. My car was always parked inside a parking garage.

You will need a fan at you desk to stir the air. Do you have a cool vest? You can probably get one free at one of the MS sites. "

" You will need a cooling vest as posted above. Very important that you never let your body over heat. My husband and I live in Alaska however we love to go to Vegas. But I am very careful to not over heat or I will pay the price for months to follow.....be careful but people in CA have MS too so you will survive....grats on job offer. "

" Hi Lotte,

I live in Vegas I have severe issues with heat..not every MS'er has this.
I just recvd my cooling vest, they also give me a neck tie and wrist bands
I recvd 2 hats.

Check out www.msassociation.org

Download application you will need to also mail a prescription from Neuro saying you are dx'd w/MS.
It only took a week and half for me to receive items.
My friend had Sears install a remote starter for car maybe you can call them for a quote so your a/c is pumping before you get into car.
(hugs) Mary "

" Lotte, I'm experiencing hot weather for the first time since my attack, and it's very difficult sometimes.
I've gone into stores wearing my cooling vest and when the A/C is turned off, for instance, I still suffer badly.
I go from a slight MS gait to a really noticeable one.
Sometimes I feel like I have cerebral palsy. My body starts returning to normal, though, after I get cooled down again.
Oh, Justawoman, I don't relish correcting others--unlike some people at this site(LOL)--but heat related symptoms are called pseudoexacerberations.
Your body functions return to the way they were after a cool-down, unlike with a true relapse. Just letting others know, so they aren't worried. (wink)
Peace always "

" Remember we are all like snowflakes--we are all different. But, yes, heat usually gets to the majority of MS'ers. Google cooling vest patterns, and can make your own fashionable cooling vests to wear. "

" I'm just stating something that's not obvious. If a person is experiencing a relapse, it's due to MS, not the heat.
And if someone has some contrary medical evidence, as oppose to conjecture, I would love to hear it. LOL. Peace always "

" Heat with me absolutely knocks the beJesus out of me.

I find that even walking up the paddock, whereas previously I would "warm" up and then it would pass, NOW, I am just about flattened by the way my body keeps heating up and I start sweating and my legs go more like lead than usual.

I will have to look up the cooling vests. I am so incredibly reactive to changes in temperature that at present it is making life a misery.

If I am cold I am stiff, if I am hot I feel like lead. Lose/lose situation. "

And well i dont wear a lot of clothes lol. I often wear tank tops and shorts and sandals...This seems to help and if people think i'm a little bit skanky well then that's their problem! i wanna stay cool!

" I'm wear the cooling vest and wrist bands too, Joeyrose, and they help. but when it's really hot, they only go so far.
You ain't gonna get any complaints from me if you're stripping down to Daisy Duke shorts and halter tops, Joeyrose. LOL "
