Has anyone heard of peripheral neuropathy related to MM? Not caused by treatment though. I just got diagnosed with this and wonder if it is related any way to the myeloma. I plan on asking next week when I see the Oncologist, just thought I would see what you all thought.

Hi,
I was just reading about it. It sounds like it is because of hyperviscosity of the proteins in the blood. It gets thicker and causes symptoms including neuropathy. Here's a link. I have experienced it but because of treatment (thalidomide). I still can't feel some of my toes. I'm sure your oncologist can help more. Cheryl http://clevelandclinicmeded.com/di...

I had my oncologist appt. on Friday. My levels stayed steady. Great news!! He was though very concerned about my neuropathy. Wants me to see a neurologist.
Also my bilirubin level doubled, asked if I was a heavy drinker. I laughed as I have not hardly even drank lately. I did back in the day. But after having kids stopped. Anyhow, now more DR. appt's. ARGH.

My thoughts and prayers are with you for sure. My neuropathy was caused by 9 months of thalamide. My feet feel cold but actually there are warm. I hope you get some answers when you see your doctor. Keep us posted. Poppy

I have peripheral neuropathy that is helped with the med Lyrica....bad news is my insurance doesn't pay for it and it's $200/mo. Only approved for neuropathy in diabetics. WE need to get some pushes for studies to prove it helps for MM neuropathy. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with mm in 10/06 & treated with thal.Developed "mild" neuropathy while on thal. (the pain doesn't seem "mild").Had stem cell trans.08/07.Started on Lyrica-helped some but had big weight gain & wanted to sleep too much. Stopped taking Lyrica.Trying to learn to live with the pain. Hope eventually it will get better. How are you coping now?

My neuropathy is progressing. My oncologist suggested possibly looking into disability. I had a fit, I am not ready for that. I keep falling, they have upped my lyrica to 300 mg a day. Helps some, but 25 added pounds so I know what you are saying. I am going to see if they will put me on Topamax. I had taken it years ago for Sciatica nerve pain and have seen where they are now using it for neuropathy. I lost 40 pounds when I was on it. I wish you the best.
