Check out this website... they may be able to help you some with the cost of the RX. I hope they can. It's just one thing after another with this disease huh? :(

Rebif is partially made up of genetically engineered chinese ovarian hamsters cells (chinese hamsters are only allowed for medical purposes because there is a shortage), and also human albumin. Just these two things alone aren't the easiest to engineer and create this medicine. They put in a ton of money, time and resources to come up with the medicine. I do think medicine prices are outragous, but some of them, like Rebif, do make sense to me. Cost before insurance of mine is 1610, so I am wondering why yours is more by almost 200. Check if you can get it cheaper by mail order or at the local hospital, etc. There might be discounts available somewhere. Good Luck! hugz!

Good point on the mail order -- With my insurance it is cheaper do get a 3 month supply at a time rather than just get one month and a time. It's only $50 cheaper... but every little bit helps these days.

I would be interested to understand the amazing amount it costs you all. I suggest you move here to Australia. It costs me $31.30 for a months supply. We have something here called the PBS-Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and I believe that is why it is so cheap. If a medication gets put onto this it becomes alot cheaper otherwise it would cost about $1,100 per month. Is there no scheme like that for drugs in America? I wonder if your politicans could take up the fight to add this if there is a similar scheme in the States. Might be worth talking to someone. I hope I don't sound ignorant to the way it works over there but I would be interested to hear how your system works in regards to meds. Good luck though I hope that you don't have to go off your meds though.

Hah...I got a prescription for Avonex and they want $2100.00 per month. With insurance I have to pay $525.00 per month. I just laughed when they told me. That's more than my car payment and almost as much as my rent! I also make too much to qualify for low income assistance. I guess Michael Moore had it right in his movie Sicko. Middle class americans with insurance can't get the drugs they need either.
