I haven't tried either one, but Rebif is an interferon (same as Avonex) so there are side effects, including flu like symptoms. I didn't want to take that for those reasons. I researched Betaseron in the past and if you have a history of depressive symptoms, this can increase those effects. Rebif is 3x per week i've heard and Betaseron is every other day, although u should check with you doctor because each person is different. Sorry I don't know for experience. Tasha :)

I started Rebif in December. I chose it because it is an injection that is subcutaneous (into the fat, not the muscle)and it's 3x's a week, not every day. Not sure how that differs from the Betaseron, I only compared w/Avonex. I ice the injection area for 5 minutes before injecting, then inject REALLY slowly. Sometimes ice afterwards, but not often. No pain with injection - side effects: flu, fatigue and a silver dollar sized reaction at injection site the next day. Not bad at all for me. Good luck.

I am on Rebif I have not had any of the burning or any bad site reactions. I also have had slight flu like symptoms with the first two doses now that I'm on the 44mg dose for some reason I get the shakes sometimes and I can't stop them, but that is the worst I have had so far.

I have been on Betaseron since Sept., 2007. You inject every other day, under the skin. I have not had any side effects since the first week (flu-like symptoms. The MRIs I have gotten since then have showed NO new lesions. I do have injection site reactions (sometimes), but on the whole, this therapy is working well for me.

I am about to start Rebif. was going to do Betaseron because of a study, but my insurance denied. Why do the doctors let you decide? I don't understand that myself, I am new to this and don't know one drug from the other....so I have no advice except I am in the same boat you are in!!

I needed to decide between Rebif and Betaseron as well. I chose Betaseron...I've gotten the same information as you. In addition, I believe they will have a nurse come to my house to teach me how to do the injections and will also have a nurse available to me 24/7 if I have any questions or problems. So that was another reason why I chose the betaseron. Good luck with your decision.

I just started Rebif. The nurse came out yesterday to show me how. I didn't have any kind of reaction at the injection site and I didn't feel a burning feeling. Thsi may be because I am numb in my legs.. not sure. I didn't ice before hand.. but the nurse told me to massage the injection site for at least a minute after.. so I guess that helped. I haven't felt any kind of side effects yet.. but like I said.. yesterday was the first one and you start with a low dose..

My husband was on Rebif. He was only on it for two months. He had a grand mal seizure 2 weeks ago and they did another MRI and there were a lot of new lesions. That is all i know. hope this helps.

Just an update... I've been on Rebif 2 weeks now. Tomorrow I start the middle dose for 2 weeks and then I am at the regular dose. I'm hoping with the increase tomorrow my side effects remain the same... because I really haven't had any! I just get a red spot where I am injecting that lasts about 2 weeks (You could play connect the dots on my thighs/stomach! haha!). But I haven't had any flu like symptoms.. knock on wood!
I know it's different for everyone though..
What did you decide on?
