I was afraid of the drug until I tried it.
I know that I havet had MS since the age of 22 I must admit that I learned about the drug in Viet Nam, and it's medical value when I had to start dealing with MS. I feel that I have not fought the diease, but learned to live with it. I am now 58, live in Oregon and legally use the drug. I have not been legal all my life, and because of it I quit many times. I have even gone to doctors with the request of trying the legal that I was told that worked much better. I always went back to the marijuana, bcause their drugs would not work as well. After living with my MS for, at least, 36 years, I am not able to live on my own, but I still drive without hand controls, and only restricted to an outomatic transmission and a electric parking brake. The majority of my phisical problems are on the left side. My blatter and bowel probles are minor, and I am still sexualy active. I am in a wheelchair, but it has only been for the last 7 years of the MS. I am also presently on clonazepam for tight legs and painful spasms, and pramipexole dihydrochloride for restless legs. I have only been using these medications for the last cople of years. Posted on 02/07/08, 11:02 am |

the first time I tried it I puked my guts out. The next time was later under diffrent conditions, and was again in Viet Nam with different results.
The smell never bothered me, but I prefer useing the medication with a vaporizer. Their are a lot of medications out there, and we all have diffrent reactions to them. Nothing is for everyone. I hope that your's helps you as much as mine does me.

I was a massive pothead in my teenage years. Every day, several times a day. I only used it to have a good time. I gave it up when i was 18 though. Something switched in my brain and now if i try to smoke i get THE worlds worst panic attacks. They're so bad that if it did come down to having to use marijuana for MS because the pain was so bad, i wouldn't. I rather deal with pain than the thoughts that enter my mind when i'm high.
And that's my 2 cents.

I have been daily consumer since I was diagnosed in 2000. I also have been taking Betaseron and have been doing great! This drug is not for everyone, it is just like anything else. For some people it works well, helps with spasticity, stress, increase appetite and relaxes muscles. For some people it can cause anxiety, headache, laziness, and paranoia. Rule of thumb is, if it makes you feel bad don't do it. If it makes you feel good and you think it helps you then by all means. Now, there are different strains of marijuana. Each strain can be either Sativa or mostly Indica, or a combination of both. And each strain has a different level of THC. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana.
The higher the THC level the stronger the effects. If your a first timer I would suggest using some low-grade marijuana w/ a low THC level; and working your way up as you feel necessary. Also, if you are concerned with the harmful effects from smoking it, i.e. lung, throat cancer. You can buy a vaporizer and it is completely safe and harmless. You can research them online, just google "vaporizers". If anyone has any questions, I have answers!

I can going to express my thoughts in this matter as they differ from most postings, but come from 43 years of experience and logic. Without being judgemental to anyone who smokes marijuana for medical purposes, isn't that a little like choosing to smoke opium or shoot heroin to control pain when a class 2 such as Percocet or Oxycodone works just as well? I'd rather crush and take 80mg. of Percocet/Oxyxodone a day to control pain than I would raise poppy and smoke the opium and make it into heroin. I just cannot, without any degree of consciounce, condone using an illegal substance for any medical purpose. There are just too many variables. That's why pot that is grown in a lab is not as potent as that found on the street and why many opt to use the street stuff rather than use the clinical stuff. If you want relief from pain and nausea, why not just use the clinical stuff and stay away from the street stuff? Hmm.

This is such a personal choice for so many people and so i can only speak for myself.I smoked pot prior to being diagnosed with ms,actually it was after being diagnosed with the ms that i decided to try to get healthy, stopped smoking and started to use the pain meds the dr gave me.They always left me feeling like crap and one day i said screw it and figured id smoke a joint with my husband, not only did it help with the tremors but the pain that i was having was gone!! Instead of feeling like i was going to vomit i actually wanted to eat . In my state they dont allow medical mj and so it leaves me with no other choice but to buy it from the local drug dealer. If my insurance would pay for the stuff and it was of equal quality I would go pick it up from the pharmacy . I think that this is just like everything else with ms....what works for some people may not work for everyone else..

you been sold a bill of goods. The only reason any of those substances are illegal is for the profit of the corporations. Marijuana has nothing in common with the other drugs you mention here. you should educate yourself. Just the same as a military soldier should not follow an immoral or unjust order we to get our rights from God not Governments, especially tyrannical corporate run ones. You can start your education here: http://silverbearcafe.com/private/... You will see you know nothing in regard to this. The war on drugs has been 35 years and 500 billion dollars and it was lost from the beginning. Regards!

I USE TO SMOKE YEARS AGO JUST FOR FUN TO GET HIGH,WHEN I WAS IN MY TEENS THEN I STOPPED FOR YEARS I'M 43 NOW AND WAS DX WITH MS LAST YEAR.I STARTED TO SMOKE AGAIN AND IT DOES HELP THE PAIN AND MAKES SOME MS SYMPTONS BETTER.POT IS NOT LEGAL FOR MEDICAL USE IN MY STATE.I DON'T THINK IT WILL EVER BE LEGAL SINCE IT'S CHEAPER THAN ALL THE OTHER PAIN MEDS I THINK THE DRUG COMPANIES DON'T WANT TO CUT INTO THEIR PROFITS,AND WILL HELP KEEP IT ILLEGAL.
