Groningen - The anti-depressant drug Prozac can slow down the rate of progress of the disease multiple sclerosis. Researchers at the University Medical Centre of Groningen in The Netherlands announced their findings after extensive research on MS patients, who were found to suffer from fewer infections of the brain if using Prozac.

Worldwide, more than a million people suffer from multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system, with symptoms such as loss of coordination, as well as speech and visual disturbances.

The results of the research will be published this week in the leading British Medical Journal.
