Any MSers experience this? This is hard to explain so bare with me. Does your body have unexpected or unexplained moments where it will do something strange like tense up your shoulder muscles for a few seconds to where you look like you're holding them upwards and then release...or where your arms will pop straight out in a tensed position and then release...or your upper body will tense into a curled position and then release? Or your hands will do a repetitive motion over and over like wringing your hands together and you have absolutely no control over this nor can you stop it from happening? This is something new I've started doing about 2 months ago and it concerns me. Is this an MS problem? Does anyone know what I'm talking about here??? Thanks for your time!

How about kicking yourself with your knee! You are just sitting there, minding your own business & WHAM! your knee is in your face.
Talk about hard to explain how you got that black eye. LOL!!!

But seriously, i do have this muscle contractions frequently, and as far as my Neuro says, this is normal in MS patients..... Anyone experience "Electric shocks" down both arms and into the hands, this is very uncomfortable for me.......

Yes, I have the leg suddenly popping out straight when I am sitting, it spasms & hits the top/side of my desk & colleagues wonder what the noise is & the arm spasms either straight out or hand comes up & hits me in the chin - have great bruises on neck & chin which people dont believe my explanations. Neurologist says it is part of ms for sure.

If this is new for you, it would be good to let you Dr know so they can document the new symptoms. Also, you may need something for the spasticity. It can be maddening at times!

My strangest was sitting in a waiting room and bouncing my left heel up and down and when I stopped, it kept on going until I changed positions.

Thank you so much for your replies. It's very comforting to know this is "normal" for MS. For a few years now I've had mild twitches like this with my hands or feet. It's just that my whole body has gotten involved doing it to an extreme point. I didn't realize that it was still called spasticity when it became more aggressive. Again, thank you for reassuring me that this is MS related. I'm starting up with a new neuro next month. Is there a med that will help this symptom?

For the movement twitches, etc. they often use Mysoline and yes, it does help. BUT, do not let the Ins co give you the generic form. Its called Primidone (I think). It just does not do the job as well as the brand does. I have tried several times to use the generic but when I do , I have my own little earthquakes. Please be sure your Dr orders it as "Brand Necessary" on the prescription. I could not function without it.
