After I had downed a can of Diet Coke yesterday, my husband tells me that he remembered hearing that some people who have MS and drank Diet Coke died! This doesn't sound reasonable, to me. And it was just one can anyway. Do you think artificial sweeteners are really bad for us MSers?

They are probably bad for everybody, not just MSrs. Hey I've been drinking diet coke since the 70's - I'm still here, so if it causes death, it's REALLY SLOW.

My mum is convinced diet coke caused her MS. Some of it is based on research she has done and the rest on assumption as she was having 4 cans a day years ago. I don't know about someone dyinh from a can.

I read that same story. the diet coke has a fifth of wild turkey in it and I think the fact that they drove 95 mpg into a tree had something to do with it....seriously, the artificial sweetners aren't the best, just don't over do.
I have one a day.

My Grandma has her Master's in nutrition. When she found out I have MS she told me that artificial sweeteners like aspartame break down into formaldehyde in the body. When I was having a bad relapse I stopped drinking diet pop like she suggested and my relapse stopped. I was back to "normal" in two days after a week of not being able to walk. I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners, but I like splenda!
