Iam in a difficult situation. My current job requires a lot of travel. I am in commercial ultrasound. It is wearing me out. My company wants me to file std, it is all they can offer me. I don't think my doctor would go for it. And i am not sure I want to go that route. I have the opportunity to go back to my old job that is m-f,8-5 and no travel. It is cardiac scanning in an office environment. It is less money and a diferent prescription plan (pay up front and get reimbursed) and we all know how expensive these MS drugs are. I need advice quick!!!!!I have to make a decision today!!!

" Dzjsu88, You are the only one who truly knows if you are capable of going back. If it means going back to the old job and you can do then the family is just going to have to understand. You can only do so much Your current job doesn't sound very cooperative or understanding so maybe it s time to move on. You do not need their stress. To bad you you don't live in Ohio, I could get ya a job. My Aunt is sonographer and I am going to school for it. Good Luck! "

" dz, I can only tell you that I would be completely lost were I forced to stay home. It is not so much that I am a workaholic, but that I need the challenges, the stimulation and the friendships that I have built at work. The down side to any job is the stress, so you need to take that into account when you make your decision. The stress is not bad where I work, but they cut me some slack, thankfully.

Obviously your current job is not doing your health any good and I can only imaging the stress of traveling with the MS shadowing your every move. Are you willing to sacrifice your health in order to get a better health plan? Is that your only option or are there other jobs out there? There is a lot of weighing for you to do, but I can tell you that I personally am ready to park wheels under my desk, so long as my brain and eyes hold out.

Bless you in your decision and much luck. Keep us posted, would like to hear how things work out for you. "

" Thanks for the support. My old job would be stressful probably too but in a different way. I feel I will go back to my old job and give up the travel and higher salary. My health is too important to risk any more. "

" My point of view is a bit different than the others. I travel for my job too and completely sympathize with you. Travel can kick your butt even if you're healthy to begin with.

If you current boss is insisting on STD to let you stop travelling then it could be several things 1) he thinks you'll feel better in a short time (does he know you have MS?) 2)He's bluffing you to see if you can get a doc's OK for it.

Why not at least try to see if your neuro or GP will go for it? What happends if you start just missing work, calling in sick, cancelling flights because you ARE sick. You'll be able to roll over to STD in a different way, right?

I'm kind of looking at your $ situation, too. Current job is more $ and better health plan. Nothing to sneeze at.

By sheer luck, I have only had to travel 4 days in the last 3 months. I swear, I'm feeling much better. Maybe if you can get a break without travel you'll feel better, too. I'm not shaking in my boots about what travel will do to me anymore. One think I forgot to tell you in my other posts about accomodations is that I requested the option of 3 nights away from home instead of 4.

I would say go for the STD. Or, fess up to MS if you haven't yet and request accomodations. They don't HAVE to accomodate you. But they do have to consider your requests. "

" I have disclosed the MS. I also have called the MS Society and JAN to see if any other commercial ultrasound companies have about the travel requirements. Thanks for your advice. I will be looking at all of my options. "

" I did just that recently. I had a stressful job, had flares, felt like crap. I 'tried' other jobs, nothing worked. Now i'm in the same job I did before and its less money, BUT at least I feel comfortable, know what I'm doing and it has actually helped a bit, especially when it comes to memory (my biggest problem). But then, only you know if you can and want to make that change. I think its great that they are willing to offer you your previous job, it shows that they want to keep you and care about you enough to not waste you away as many employers like to do. Good luck. "
