I'm new here. Nice to meet all of you. I wrote a journal entry and I would love for those of you who have the time to offer me advice to read it and send any suggestions my way. :) I believe humor heals the soul so I wanted to say hello with a funny, yet slightly humiliating story.
My son drove me to the dr. the other day ( I can't drive right now). I, being so darned independent told him that I was fine to drive myself home, so he headed off with his friends. I drove home allright...more like 20mph in a 55mph zone because my world was rocking...and then, almost home a cop appeared in rearview. I pulled over before the lights went on. Oh...my tags need to be updated but I haven't had the ability to get there....It was all good until I spoke. You see, I walk like I'm drunk, speak like I'm drunk, see like a drunk, and move like I'm drunk...and the officer said "Ma'am are you on medications? as I was trying to explain to him how I was driving myself home from the docs....I said, "No sir, it's my brain." That's all that I could get out! He showed him my docs neuro card as a way to prove I should not go to jail for a DUI! Okay..so I didn't go to jail...whew...but he did ask me like three times if he could please call someone to take me home! I made it home and haven't driven since. Oh, a day in the life.....:) Hope to get to know all of you soon! Posted on 05/01/08, 10:05 am |

As an MS Support Group Leader in the State of Oregon, I will do my best to answer your questions as simply and straightforward as I can. Lupus can be diagnosed witha simple and inexpensive blood analysis. Insist they do this, and to give you a copy of the lab results. Then take them to the Internet and do your own search. .... I had MS for several years, and had done volunteer work with the NMSS, as had my mother -- and I had 21 years university education under my belt. I knew the symptoms, and I guess, better than my mnay doctors. In my small community I am known for finqally walking up to the referral clerk the medical clinic, and saying, "Dr. Eerickson wants me to have an MRI and to see a neurologist. Can you do the paper work now while I wait, and then I can take it with me?" This is how I was diagnosed with my MS....Now that I have shared my personal story, let me tell you that I refer to MS as the snowflake disease---just as there are no 2 snowflakes ever alike, there are also never 2 MS'ers ever alike. Your symptoms are definitely similar to MS, but also the same symptoms often seen in Lupus....Yes, autom-immune diseases often run in pairs, and you could even have both Lupus and MS, although very unlikely. If the lab work does not show Lupus, then request that your MRI be sent to an expert MS specialist at one of the national MS centers, and that they be qa consulting physician. Only your Dr. can make this request.
personal apologies---very tired tonight and can barely think, let alone type. I did want to reply. If you have MS, due to your professional background, you would enjoy reading a colleague's book (Allison Shadday..MS and Your Emotions). If you have questions, please write me. Leanna

Hi Angela, I know many of us can say the same thing- but I really relate. When I saw Finding Nemo my friends started callying be Dory. At the time It actually made me feel somehow better- someone eh.. something to relate to.
My boss started to agree with my coworkers that something was wrong when it took me 5 extra hours to get to a county meeting. We all find ways of accepting where we are at and yet not accepting it as a strict limit. I guess i mean we find ways to laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole situation and keep on swimming - I mean -doing and enjoying what we can. Many of my days would be good on a sit-com. It is a good thing I have always been easy going because now i just let it flow and let it go and wait for a moment of clarity before I actually do anything. I can usually tell if i will be able to find the post office or not. It is often worth the extra cup of tea to wait till my head clears. sorry to ramble I just wanted to say Hello. And Keep on Swimming!
