we don't discuss this in our family. my brother is 52 and has tumors in his nasal cavities, tests showed lesions on his skull...he is on thalidamide and other meds. his meds are $5,000 a month. i believe he is starting chemo...he takes steroids now, too. is he in an advanced stage of this disease? i live very far away from him. he can't speak well because his sinuses are congested with tumors. i e-mail him and he never talks about what is going on medically.

" From what I believe your brother's condition does not necessarily indicate an advanced stage where there is not going to be better days ahead. Perhaps he can give you some idea of his staging soon.
I wouldn't assume that it's all doom and gloom at this time, it's amazing what some people go through and have great recoveries and remissions for extended periods of time.

In the meantime, perhaps once he has gone through this stage of treatment and chemo, he will be better able to communicate with you.

I think what happens as well is for some people, not talking about it helps them cope with their fears and stress. It's almost like if you say it out loud then it's real...maybe this is what is happening for him for now.

Wishing you and your brother the best, please keep us informed.
Warm regards
Muriel "
