Anti-Depressants

Does anyone know if it is safe to take anti-depressants or anxiety medication during pregnancy? If so, which ones?
I am not pregnant yet, but after suffering 2 back to back miscarriages, I have been feeling very depressed and anxious lately. We will probably start TTC in a few weeks, but as it gets closer, the anxiety is building up. I have always tried to keep things as natural as possible, but my usual methods of stress relief don't seem to be working.
Thanks in advance!

" I am currently taking Lexapro. I asked my OB if it would be safe for me to use Lexapro while ttc and if I should be lucky enough to conceive again and he assured me it would be safe to use this. "

" I saw my doc yesterday and she was dissapointed that I had not picked up my lexapro, I told her for one I couldn't afford and two I am worried about ttc and meds. She said there was no known studies that say it is harmful she said the only shown to maybe be harmful was paxil. She said those who took paxil had preemies. I think that is all she said. "

" You should tell the doc that you are ttc and they will put you on something safe. OBs have lists of what kind of meds you can and can't take during pregnancy. "

" There are a whole bunch of meds that are safe to take in pregnancy. Zoloft, I know for sure because I took it when I was pregnant with my daughter. There are anti-anxiety meds also. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I went to see a specialist (I think she was a psychiatrist with a specialty in OB patients) to get her opinion because I had been through so much. It was 10 years ago, but I think she also said klonopin is safe in the first 2 trimesters. Your ob would know for sure and could possibly refer you for a consultation. Good luck. "

" I am taking Celexa - I have been told by one doctor "it isn't the best" but then by another doctor, that it was okay. I tried Zolfoft but it gave me heart problems. the one doctor that didn't like celexa, asked if I had tried prozac, but that didn't work for me at all. "

" Hi I was on Lexapro before we planned to have kids. But my dr took it off and he said that it's better that I stay off it. Here's a Mayo clinic page on antidepressants and pregnancy: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/a...

Different drugs are divided into 5 categories of safety for pregnancy: http://www.brooksidepress.org/Prod...

Do make sure to ask your dr which category the meds given to you belong to.

Love and hugs,
Snow "

" P.S., I just remembered why I was advised to stay off Lexapro -- because it may cause pulmenary hyper-tension in new borns (I'm not sure about the rate, though). So do ask your dr about this if you're on it. "
