In the chronic pain group, there is a discussion on this matter and i thought it would be applicable to us here. I, being a former tractor trailer driver, refuse to drive while medicated. It is dangerous and in Connecticut, you can be arrested for DUI.

" The meds I am on don't affect my driving, however when the severe migraine hits, and I have to go and get a rescue shot, I HAVE TO HAVE A DRIVER, they will not give me the shot without one because it actually starts working before I get home( about 10 minutes) But in the past I have taken meds that when I would get home from somewhere , I wouldn't even remember coming home. So I am very careful... Always. Lori "

" I gave up on the ER. They only give morphine and I have a tollerance to it. The first few times, it was great. The last 2, they gave me 2 shots and the nurse and doctor were scratching their head as to how I was still sitting up. Then I explained what meds I do take, the quantities and they understood. Morphine with my meds put me under. But only for a few hours. The first time, I slept fo 13 hours afterwards. Now it is candy. LOL. "

" I take nortriptyline to prevent most migraines and that affects me not at all as far as driving goes. Imitrex for the breakthrough headaches can make me sleepy, but half a generic-brand caffeine tablet or 1 Excedrin counteracts that nicely. The anti-inflammatory regime I am now on makes most Imitrex unnecessary -- but I still carry one as a talisman against needing it! "
