Migraines Severe???

I was wondering how severe a headache is to be considered a migraine?

I recently started topamax and have a return visit to neuro soon.

I have dropped my severe headaches that last more than a day, sometimes dragged on for days, down to mild headaches that now often taking excedrin migraine nips in the bud or at least makes tolerable.

Are these the beginnings of migraines that are being kept from becoming full blown bad ones like I used to have? Is it the topamax working and maybe just that it needs to be increased a bit?

I still get a bad one that hangs on longer now and then but nothing like before. I'm just not sure about these milder headaches.

Do you guys get the milder headaches too?

" I get the milder ones which I can take OTC and go lay down in the dark and after a couple of hours ,I am fine, But when the severe ones hit, NOTHING HELPS, I tried Topamax a few years ago and the neuro took me off of it, I was having really bad side effects from it. I hope you feel better. Let us know!! Take care, God Bless you!!! Lori "

" Topamax is not just used to prevent migraines, but to reduce their effects. It is a medication that is used to treat neuropathic pain as well as migraines (and they they can go up to 1000mg to treat neuropathic pain or epilepsy). So, it may be that your migraine pain is being effectively reduced by this medication. "
