I know this is gonna sound kinda strange but do any of you know if a regular family Dr is qualified or trained to do a nerve block like a neurologist does? Thanks ... Lori

" good question. I do not know. I know patients are encouraged to ask such things of their doctors. I would find it hard to ask, but supposedly it is supposed to be OK to ask. could be a difficult thing, in my mind. "

" Primary doctors and even neurologists will send you to a pain specialist to get those blocks nowadays. Don't be shy about asking, there is nothing illegal in those nerve blocks...just lidocaine and a steroid. Even if your primary can't do it - just ask that he'll refer you to someone who can. Be firm about it. It is YOUR health. "

" The reason I brought this question up was because a couple of years ago, a neurologist done a nerve block on me, then about 6 months later I was at my Regular Dr. , had a severe migraine and couldn't stop throwing up, so he was looking at my chart and was reading about the nerve block the neuro had done, so he decided to do one himself EXCEPT, when he put the first needle in my head, I KNEW HE DIDN"T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING, he just kept giving me shot after shot, I finally had to ask him to quit after about the 8th one. No, I haven't been back to him since, nor the neuro, but I have an appointment with the neuro next month., I was talking to the lady at the neuro's office yesterday and she couldn't believe that my old Dr had done that.I knew that all of us here had been through so many things concerning our migraines, I just thought I would ask... Thanks for the reply's!! Lori "
