Anyone have a nerve block for a migraine. My neurologist suggested that or try a medrol pack. I don't like the use of steriods which that is. but I figured try it and see what happens. It has been day 4 and it actually has been getting worse. I am at a loss. he gave me axert ( i never was on that) but you have to take that at the beginning of a migraine. Well make them stop is the first key right?? I have been on EVEYTHING possbile for them. I gave him a list of about 20 different drugs I was a guiena pig for with no luck. I have the weirdest body chemistry. I am down and out so sick of being in crippling pain every moment of the day. Any advice would be great. Thanks so much.

I have had the nerve block for migraine several times. The goal is to have several weeks or months without migraines. For me it was only a few days, but because I'm in a very near constant state of pain, having a few days was very welcome.
Just so you know, the nerve block uses steroids too. It is a combination is an anesthetic like lidocaine and a steroid. The anesthetic reduces pain on the nerve right away, while the steroid tries to reduce inflammation on the nerve long term. If you wanted a further list of medications to try: http://www.helpforheadaches.com/ar... Also keep in mind that it takes at LEAST three months of being on a preventative med before you can say that you've tried it fully. Also keep in mind that for some people it isn't ONE preventative to do the trick, it is several. You make need to be on preventatives from many different categories. Have you been in the hospital for a DHE cycle? Have you been in the hospital for a Depakote infusion? Or Lidocaine and Magnesium? I agree making them stop is the first thing, You are on the right track with trying the Medrol Dose Pack, though. As for abortives...how many have you tried? Because you really do need to try all seven of the triptans before you can say that you've tried them all. They all act differently. Have you tried Midrin? Have you tried DHE nasal spray (brand name Migranal)? And I don't want to bring this up...but what is your go-to med for pain management, and how often are you taking it? Do you include Tylenol (or any acetaminophen based drug) in the in-between times? Or ibuprofren? Here is a link to something I wrote up, maybe you'll find something new. http://dailystrength.org/c/Migrain... Take care, Laura

I have, once, and it provided no relief but the steroids did, what they sometimes do, cause tissue death around the injection point causing me to have an actual hole on the back of my head for 2 years.
The doctors never cautioned me this may happen. After, they said, oh yes, it happens. Luckily, it was covered by hair. They suggested surgery to cover it with tissue so my skull/nerves would not be so exposed or wait. I waited and it's slowly filling out. If I had gotten relief from it, I would have ignored the hole in the head. But the shot itself did nothing for me.

I have been on of the top of my head.. Topomax, Zomig, Imitrex, Acetazolimide, Lexapro, Prozac, Paxil, Wellburtin, Depakote, Amitriptilan (s/p), Xanax, Frova, Firoicet, Relpax, Axert,The anti depressant with the little egg.. I can't think of the name.. I was on that for a long time. I am done with the medrol pack and that actually made them worse. I have been taking b complex for a while. I have never heard of the DHE cycle or depakote infusion. To get the cycle to stop would be AWESOME.... then something that would work to keep it away or at least if it comes back to make it not so horrible. You gave me soemthing to think about thanks so much. I am trying to figure out why strong narcotics have been the only thing that has been able to keep it gone but then I have to take at least 3 5/500 everyday. But the neurologist said that can actually make it worse... I am so lost on this. You would think about 10 years of this something would give or make sense. blah

I have done the nerve blocks, the best results were 2 days headache free. They said some patients get upto 8 weeks pain free.. I will say the 2 days were great.. I haddnt been with out a headache in over 6 yrs. But it was not worth it to me, the 3rd day when I had the headaches again was very emotional, and hard, I wanted them to work so badly. I couldnt handle the not working, :(
