I have tried botox. It didn't really help too much, but according to my new neuro it may be because I wasn't getting enough. My headaches/migraines appeared with chronic left upper back pain that is now almost all the way down my back. The first attempts I had at Botox were only 100 units in the head and back of the upper neck. Then the last attempt, which was also the 4th attempt my old neuro decided to try 200 units to include the upper left shoulder/back area. That really didn't do too much because Botox, from what I understand needs to be done quite frequently to be effective. My new neuro has decided to try 600 units in total with 200 in the head and another 400 units in the left side of my back. I think he also wants to do this every 8 weeks. It will be expensive but hopefully worth it. Some specialists will tell you that more than 300 units is unsafe, and that is why I switched to a new neuro. I am willing to try higher doses as nothing else seems to be working. My old neuro didn't even want to bring me up to 300 units. The new neuro said that that amount of Botox that I have been receiving for my issues and my muscle mass was a little like "peeing int the ocean", in other words he wasn't surprised that my earlier treatments of Botox weren't that helpful.
Anyway, I hope that you find the solution for you. Botox, like other treatments, is not usually a "one time" miracle shot. It takes time and it needs to done by an expert. Take care. WhiteRose.
