New to site.... Am I nuts...?

I'm new to this site. I actually found it looking up info on an upcoming surgery. Then I thought, let me battle the big monster - MY HEAD. I've been on Imitrex (shots) - they are o.k. (I couldn't do the shot myself, and usually waited to long)and noticed the shots were loosing there umph. So my doc put me on Topamax along w/ Fioricet. I thought the Fioricet wouldn't even need to be used with this MIRICLE Topamax. I feel like Dr. HOuse, I try to keep the Fioricet at 1 pill on on-set. I've done the diary thing. I still can pin point what set them off. I know air pressure change and this year allergies (at least that is what I'm blaming them on). When I talk about this with another doc, they say - well there isn't much out there for headaches. Headaches? I live day in and out with headaches and ward off any possible migraine ... I want the whole thing to stop. Is this what life is suppose to be like? Does anyone here find themselves in the same boat?

" I couldn't take Topamax, bad side effects, I have took so many things, I have lost count. They will work really good at first, then quit. My Dr. just gave me a sample of TReximet, I have only taken it once, got rid of the migraine. Some Dr.'s are great and some are not, I have learned that if your Dr. also has migraines ,they treat you different to some extent than the ones who have never had a migraine. everything about migraines is BAD!!!
My head hurts most all the time also. And no,I don't think this is what life is suppose to be like. I have been having migraines for 6 years and it sure has a very vivid impact on our lives, Take care, God Bless You!! Lori "

" Welcome to DS and this support group. I understand your frustration. I have to disagree with the doc who said "there isn't much out there for headaches." As for relief, I don't know what will do the trick and can only give your encouragement.
I often dispair over my problems then realise how much worse they could be. That is not much help, but is still a fact. For what it's worth, I take the generic for Fioricet, .. one at onset, and it works for me. All we can do is be thankful it is not worse, cope, and keep looking for the best relief we can find. Good luck to you. I wish you perpetual comfort. "

" Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you are in such pain, I have been their to the point that I had neg. thoughts. After trying everything, my Dr. suggested Botox injections. They inject Botox into the head, neck, or face, or all. It depends on the Dr. Thank God for Botox, ever since I started those shots, my migraines are almost gone. I get them, but if I take a pill they go away before they get out of hand. I also had cluster headaches that my Dr. said are the worse, and they have decrease. Well I hoped this helped, and don't stop looking for a Dr. who beleives in this. Good Luck and take care. P.S. if you want, let me know how things worked out for you. "

" I am sorry about your constant headaches. I have been having cluster headaches for 26 years. I had none this year. Recently, I was on Maxalt sub-lingual and Verapamil PM until.

You might also want to have your Doctor check your levels of vitamins B-12, D, and Folic Acid. Here is why:

I have been seeing the same Neurologist in Miami, FL for 10 years. In April 2007, he had me check my B-12 and folic acid levels. Since it was real low, he had on folic acid (400mcg)on sub-lingual B-12 (Brand: Swanson Ultra, Methylcobalamin, 5mg). I have been taking them daily. When I saw him in April of 2008, he shared with me that he had Labcorp send him B-12 results for all his migraine sufferers (which I am not since I have (had) clusters). The analysis showed that 55-60% of them had a B-12 and a vitamin D deficiency. He decided to check my D and yes I was deficient also. So, he put me on D since April 2008. Guess what? I did not have one headache this year. To be exact, I have been cluster free for over a year. "
