i had fairly regular migraines that i thought were sinus headaches for a few years prior to getting depressed and since then
ive woke up to my head throbbing in the back of neck for more than a year now. the rest of the day i have a background headache ready to breakthrough, but rarely does, with presure behind my eyes and extreme fatigue due to sleeping through the headache and bruxism. been to several headache specialists with little help. one said its because im clenching at night suggested botox which i cannot afford being unemployed and unemployable. i saw a few tmj doctors that said they didnt believe my jaw was causing my headpain, even though my jaw does hurt and is super tight and sore?..... so another headache specialist says ive got transformed migraine, and had me on elavil and effexor and gave me imitrex (which i havent used in the 2 weeks since appt) and the elavil has be comletely zombie unable to think. and i still feel like crap, maybe with less headpain and better sleep though. i dont know who to believe at this point. i still cant stop clenching at night, and my head and neck kills. YES, YES YES... right there with you! So, it took me forever to finally get someone to help me. I totally understand what you are up against. Hate to say, I am still in pain- but its less than it was. First let me say- even if you can afford it, DON'T GO WITH THE BOTOX. I did. Big mistake. I was desperate, and if they had said "cut your arm off" to stop the pain, I would have. The botox only made things worse:(
Now, the best thing I did was get into see a Physical Therapist. He worked the neck, back of my head and scalp. All connected to the jaw. Gave me excersises to do, manual massage and stretches. Serious improvement! I think (not a doc obviously) but your issue is your neck. My neurologist totally agreed that the TMJ, and migraine stuff was all coming from my neck. I think for the most part he was right. NOW, I am waiting for my stupid insurance to cover my bite split so I can stop clenching at night. I can't afford 800.00 buck for it. So I wrote them a letter and waiting to hear back. This is crazy! Good luck, keep me posted. BTW I use Imitrex, it works for the knock down drag out migraine. Jill

My Migraines are coming from my neck (so the Doc thinks). Also, I clench my teeth at night, so I wear a night guard in my mouth. I'm in Physical Therapy for my neck (I have a bulging disc), and I do exercises to strengthen the muscels. I get theraputic messages every other week, too.
But, what has really helped me the most is Botox injections (100cc). I had my first series in March, and I went from 20 headaches a month to 1 a month. I'm scheduled for more Botox in 2 weeks. However, all this treatment I have been fortunate enough to receive is very expensive, but I have insurance that covers 80%. Oh, I'm still on Topomax (200mg), Muscel Relaxers, Desyrel, Cymbalta, and Maxalt (if needed). Good luck to you!
