Last Monday (December 4th) I woke up with boils covering my abdomen. At first they were just itchy then they began to grow more and more painful. Now my entire body aches, and I am having fevers on and off, along with chills. When I saw my doctor he thought that I had been attacked by a spider while I was sleeping, and I had a bad reaction to it, so he put me on steroids and gave me a cream to use. My son who is 9 months old, woke up on Tuesday morning and had a large purple blister on his hand. His pediatrician tested it and it came up positive for MRSA. When the nurse told me exactly what MRSA was, I immediately called my doctor back. They switched me to an antibiotic called "Sulfameth" After 3 days on that, and no response, I called again and requested a change of antibiotic. He then put me on Biaxin. I have been taking the Biaxin for 2 days now, and there has been no improvement. The sores have now spread to my upper thigh, and all of them are extremely painful. My son is on Bactrim and he seems to be responding very well. His sore is almost completely healed and he has not gotten any others.
I decided to call an infectious disease doctor, and had no luck. They either weren't taking any new patients, didn't see anyone with MRSA, or couldn't get me in for 3 weeks, I cannot wait that long! If anyone has any advice, please help me. All I feel like doing is crying. I feel absolutely horrible and I don't know what to do.... Posted on 12/11/06, 06:12 pm |

Hi there
1) Ill assume you stopped the steroids AND the steroid cream and if not...stop them 2) FIND out the sensitivities of your son's MRSA culture (in other words after they cultured MRSA they run tests against certain antibiotics to see what his MRSA is "sensitive" to) Get those ASAP. 3) CALL YOUR DOCTOR: tell him/her you are not getting better AND relay to them the sensitivites of your sons MRSA and let them know you are not getting better Dr O.

Thank you so much for responding and giving me the information. Unfortunately right now my son's doctor's office is closed. I will definately call first thing in the morning. Yes, I stopped taking the steroids. I was told to continue using the cream, it is called fluocinonide. I go in to the doctor again tomorrow (family physician). Hopefuly I can find out something more. Thank you again for the information.
