Hubby just got over the 1st go round with this MRSA. Now he has another place on his chin. It is reddened, swollen, and hurts. He says it hurts from his chin, along each jow line, up to his ears.
He is taking oral antibiotics, and Septra too. He showers in Hibiclens. And has Bactroban ointment that he inserts in each nostril 3x day.
We also apply hot compresses to his chin, in hopes of bring this to a head, and getting the "gunk" out of it.
He saw one doctor Monday, and another on Wednesday. He returns next week. Hopefully this will have run its course by then. Both doctors seem to think that the treatment will help, and this will be cleared up soon.
He says he feels very fatigued, and that this is very painful too.
Have any of you used a mouthwash that is 0.2% Hibiclens ?? I read about this in an article about MRSA Treatments. I wondered if it helped?? Maybe this mouthwash combined with showering in Hibiclens, and the ointment would keep the MRSA from "finding a home in your nose?"

" I just found your post, maybe my response will help someone else.

sorry to read about your husband, his situation is very close to mine. I am getting over one on my cheek happened in early Octover.

I was tired and without question the most pain I have experienced in my life. My teeth felt like they were going to explode. They said there are so many nerves in your face.

They had a surgeon I&D and I felt so much better within a few hours. I don't understand why they are so reluctant to draining the wounds. I did compresses which helped with the pain but not adequate for recovery.

I had one wound on my arm, as that went away another on my elbow. Did the chlorhexidne mouthwash, hibiclens, and the bactroban ointment for few weeks but ultimately ended up in the hospital when the infection got on my cheek.

Hope he is doing better, "
