Environmental Testing for MRSA

Absent from the recent discussions on MRSA infections has been any reference to the relative simplicity of community testing for these bacteria. While some commercial companies are charging $150.00 or more for a single MRSA test, individuals can perform their own testing for a fraction of this cost. For example, sets of 5 MRSA detection plates are being provided at $50.00 plus postage by the Institute of Progressive Medicine, a component of the Progressive University. These, easy-to-use, plates have the same sensitivity and specificity as hospital based MRSA cultures. Using these plates individuals can screen their homes, workplaces, recreational facilities and other locations for MRSA. Information on the plates can be obtained by sending an e-mail to info@MRSAinternational.com

" Is it worth the time or trouble? The surface populations vary with cleaning up with chlorox or other disinfectants. A person would need a truckload to do environmental testing in your average, busy household. Just a thought on my part.... "
