I have been dealing with these sores for over two years now. The doctors keep giving me new antibiotics everytime i get them and some help and some do not. The sores keep reoccuring every so often and they come in pairs now instead of one at a time. I just got off the phone with my ex-wife whom i am still friends with and she has one on her stomach and she just got back from the emergency room where the doctor had to lance her sore and pack it. this is her first one and i explained all the terrible details about this with her and explained all of the percautions she should take. Everyone of us should be very cautious and concerned about this epedimic because it so bad that the immortality rate on this at 20% as this was finally told the nighly news tonight this is the first time i have heard anyone say what the mortality rate was. We had an 11 year old girl die from this in vancleave mississippi and the school system said there was no cause for concern and if that is the case then why are the schools in other cities being shut down and going through a through cleaning because of this superbug that is going around, and why are the doctors keeping this all hush hush and not telling the public all the information they need to know in order to protect them selves from it.my ex-wife did not get any information from the doctor at the er other than it was called mrsa and it was contagious. We need to stand up at start getting this information out to the public on a wide spread basis. Thanks for giving me a place to vent my frustations i am very dissatisfied with the doctors and the news media and our goverment for hiding this for so long and is still not telling the whole story to the american public. thanks david

" I copied this post from AUGUST 2006 so you can see my info more than a year ago...

Community aquired MRSA is clearly on the rise...any MRSA infection acquired by persons who have NOT been recently (within the past year) hospitalized or had a medical procedure (dialysis, catheters, surgery) are known as CA-MRSA (community aquired MRSA) MRSA is often sensitive to bactrim and other oral antibiotics so can be treated in ways other than Vancomycin.
The CDC has a fact sheet for patients on their website (CDC.gov) that is quite good.

Regarding people who are colonized with MRSA...and want to eradicate MRSA from their system. Yes there is a protocol that the CDC has NOT officially endorsed yet. It is a 5 day protocol which is the following
1) chlorhexidine gluconate 4% (Hibiclens) to wash daily
2) Bactroban nasal ointment one application to each nostril three times daily
3) Chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash 0.2% or oral spray 0.2% gargled or sprayed to the throat four times a day (I had never had a pt use this)
Check out the CDC website for more facts.
Dr O. "

" I was told it was contagious but was under the impression the antibiotics would clear it up. I never knew some people never get rid of this, until I joined this site. Thanks for all the good info. We do need to do something about all the secrecy. Why aren't they telling us everything? "

" What pisses me off about this too, even when it is collinized I found out from a few docs and web sites that you can not only pass it to others, you can pass it to your pet.In turn your pet can reinfect you and your vet.I foster kittens and have my own cats.I hate to know that this puts them at risk as well. " Ha they are not even telling Canadians too. Atleast in the US they are kinda obligated toi release infection rates of hospitals.. not here in Canada..my Grandma had MRSA and could not do dialysis in our town cause of it.. had to go by ambulance 1.5 hrs away 4 times a day.. we would leave at 10:30 am for noon run and be done by 5 but couldn't get an ambulance till mostly after 10 pm.. We made flyers.. had a petition.. it didn't matter.. damn system... "
