I submitted the following two postings in response to a newspaper article on MRSA. Kind regards, W. John Martin, MD, PhD
Posting 1. MRSA bacteria currently fall into two categories. Some are characterized as not being particularly toxic but are resistant to many commonly available antibiotics in addition to methicillin. Others are highly toxic but generally easy to control with antibiotics. It is inevitable that these two groups of bacteria will intermix leading to the emergence of highly toxic, multi-drug resistant MRSA. It is possible for individuals to screen their households and their work and recreational facilities for MRSA contamination. Doing so may make it possible to largely eradicate MRSA from the community. More information is available at www.s3support.com W. John Martin, MD, PhD. Center for Complex Infectious Diseases, Institute of Progressive Medicine Posting 2. In response to an additional question about African green monkey simian cytomegalovirus (SCMV) in polio vaccines. Highly toxic MRSA were originally identified in Australia in 1992. In 1995, there were only 10 hospitalized cases of severe staphylococcal infections in Australian hospitals. By 2005, this number had risen to 35,000. Moreover, the toxic bacteria have spread to many countries including the USA. The complacency of Public Health authorities is truly regrettable. On the issue of SCMV contamination of polio vaccines. Virtually all of the monkeys used for live polio vaccine production were SCMV infected and SCMV genetic material was clearly present in previously licensed polio vaccines. Given the relative indifference to the emergence of MRSA, it is not too surprising that an epidemic of SCMV derived, as well as other forms of stealth adapted viruses, could escape Public Health scrutiny. Virus inactivated polio vaccine is currently in use in the United States. Kind regards, W. John Martin, MD, PhD. Posted on 10/16/07, 11:10 pm |
