I wanted to post a summary of treatments tested for meth addiction
1) An 8 week placebo controlled trial did look at Paxil and had high dropout rates but did find reductions in meth cravings 2) trials looking at neurontin (gabapentin) as solo treamtent for meth addiction have not shown promise 3) A placebo controlled trial with zoloft 50 mg showed no benefit 4) Buproprion (Wellbutrin) did reduce cravings from meth in one study 5) A NEW study looked at a 3 drug regimen for treatment of meth addiction and the results WERE promising: participants received 50 mg of atarax 1 hr before receiving Flumazenil infusions followed by Neurontin (gabapentin) 300 mg a day for 30 days. OK.. THIS IS MY QUESTION.. And my whole life right now is hinging on it.. Can my son die from withdrawl from meth? He is going to jail on the 1st of Dec because we called the police on him.. He is out of hand and is an alcoholic .. He will detox from both while doing the 20 days.. Is he at risk of dying? How or what can I do to let the proper people know if he is?

That is a tough one, it hasn't happened often but alcoholics can die from withdrawal, so it seems that meth addicts who are also alcoholics can too.
Him being in jail is his safest place. They are all used to various drug withdrawals so he will be OK.
