My brother was on methadone for 20 years. It finally killed him 7 years ago.
Long term it's very hard on your body.
Get off it as soon as you can.

i'm sorry to hear about your brother hun, i am getting off of methadone as soon as I can, i'm not staying on it forever, i have no reason to. but I'm not ashamed of being on methadone because it has literally saved my life.

you don't use methadone for meth that is for heroine addicts. The best way to recover is to give up totally and go to AA or NA, you're just fooling yourself with methadone.

IF THEY ARE ON METHADONE IN HERE THERE INSANE CAUSE IT'S NOT A TREATMENT FOR METH.

2 YEARS ON METHADONE IS PLENTY OF TIME YOU SHOULD GET OFF NOW AS SOON AS YOU CAN SERIOUSLY I HAVE SEEN IT MESS UP MY SISTER IN LAW'S LIFE.METHADONE IS A VERY SHORT TERM SOLUTION SO YOU CAN GET INTO SOME RECOVERY.AND IT'S FOR HEROINE ADDICTION NOT METH ADDICTION.

Leah, everyone I know who was on methadone is dead or back on opiates again. I hope you'll get off it before it's too late. I prayed for you.

i hate to burst your bubble there mike methadone is mot just for heroine addicts. this is what i am talking about when people put down methaodne who are ignorant and know nothing about it. i wasn't a heroine addict i was an opiate addict. and methadone is not a short term solution it is long term. it takes up to 2 years sometimes just to get stable on your dose. if you don't have anything nice to say please don't reply to this thread. NA is nothing but a bunch of hipocrite that do the same drugs as i did, but because they were able to just quit cold turkey they are better then me, no thats where you are wrong. thats great for those who can quit cold turkey sometimes i wish i could of to, but you know what i tried and it throw me into a seizure state that almost killed me it is impossible for me to quit pills without some form of help. so until you get educated alittle more on methadone i wouldn't open my mouth. and the only reason i am in the meth site is because there are no other sites here to talk about drugs or your problems with drugs.i have seen the things you wrote in other peoples threads and you never have anything nice to say about anyone, i think you need to take a look at yourself before critizing anyone.

I've been addicted to everything I've ever touched-I'm in the meth group becuase had an awful addiction to it-

now I see your younger than i-

I wish at your age I would have realise every drug I was going to take for the next 13 years was going to have a terrible effect on me-In every way-

What i hope you do is realise you will need to get "clean" at some stage -
Your still using-and getting out of it-That's fine!! however -You will have all the normal organ failure that a junkie who cant give the methadone away in time-
I'm 34 and I'm not trying to be-rate you at all,But you need an exit stradegy-

Like a bank robber needs an exit stradegy- Or a burglar!!-You dont hang round coz it's a nice couch you get my drift-Your in the bank now getting your life on track-however addicts dont "stop" using till they loose all-
If you can plan an exit stradegy "NOW"-with all the help you can tap into-you might have a chance-
Unfortunately If you dont get an exit stradegy your going to die-the other way is, you will loose all then go to re-haB or something-when there's no-cars ,no-kid, no fucking house-! that's when addicts a really motivated! not when the house the car and the hubby are happy-it's when it all goes pear shaped sister!!-keep in touch One step at a time I think you will need some good professional help to get properly clean and you might be ok!!!!

I don't know where everyone like gets this idea in there heads that just because someone is on methadone that they are not working a program, I am envolved in NA,AA, and MA ,so there's your program people.Just because I am on methadone doesn't mean that I'm gonna stay on it forever and mike I can tell that you really don't know anything about methadone because if you did you would know that methadone is not a short term solution niether is suboxin, yes i have been on methadone for 2 years but it took me over 1 1/2 years to even be able to get steady on it. Whether or not anyone likes the idea of methadone doesn't really matter to me, because I know that me getting on methadone has saved my life, and I did hit bottom, I was homeless , carless, jobless. I have hit rock bottom and I have made it back from it, and regardless of what anyone thinks or says I know I am clean, i'm prescribed methadone from a doctor. So what ya'll are saying is if someone is or was an addict and they are on any kind of medication from a doctor then there not clean even though there not buying it off the streets, or abusing there medications, or selling them, snorting them or shooting them. Because they are or were once an addict no-matter what kind of medications they get from a doctor they are not clean, thats a bunch of bull. I'm okay with being on methadone, and i'm only gonna say this one more time, the only reason i wrote about methadone on a meth site is becuase I didn't know there were any other threads that delt with drugs so I wrote about methadone in here.
