Hi...

This is probably a dumb question but:

My husband's ex wife is kind of nuts, and she blames all her craziness on "menopause."

But the thing is, she had a hysterectomy many years ago.

So can she really experience menopause? I think not.

Also, I'm kind of offended that she blames menopause for her violent outbursts, lack of judgement, screaming fits and so on.

I'm thinking it's a character problem, much more so than "menopause" which I don't think she could be going through anyway.

" Not all hysterectomies are full hysterectomies. If she didn't have her ovaries removed, then YES she can be having trouble and YES, she could be very insane from it, especially if she's experiencing a sudden estrogen dump like I did and didn't sleep for 7 weeks. So while she may be a person in your sphere who is problematic for you, please don't judge her there, or any other female, until you've been there yourself! "

" Well I don't know about your husband's ex but I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 24 yrs. old and the dr. told me that it would be like going through menopause all of a sudden instead of it taking time and believe me it did. I was irritable and having hot flashes as soon as I came out of the anesthesia. I'm sure I would be still if it weren't for the premarin. All I know is, hormones (or the lack of) can make women crazy. I've been there and still go through it from time to time. "

" Women who have a hysterectomy experience many problems with the menopause garbage too. But, if we can just blame all our faults on menopasue, wouldn't it be nice. I have had those terible episodes, and it is frightening from the inside to feel that. Menopause or no, we still have responsiblilty for our behavior. "

" ex-wife is dealing with more than you can imagine. If she has no ovaries=no hormones.Think how you feel just before period and magnify that more times than you can count.
Women have been castrated-think how your husband would feel. I've been dealing with this problem for 16 yrs.No magic formula. Character need not be attacked. We women work hard at controlling out emotions,anxiety,etc...When you get older, you will understand. "

" Did you wife have her ovaries removed when she had the hysterectomy? I did....and went on many years later to have a severe menopausal experience...which isn't over yet because I'm hooked on estrogen and have to wean off. Her behavior could, indeed, be menopausal if she's having a very bad time.
