My doc wants me to have a hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy in the office. No anesthesia.
I have had the biopsy before but never the scope. Has anyone had a hysteroscopy without anesthesia. She wants me to take percocet. they don't even give me a buzz so I don't think they will work. (not a drug addict, used them after a root canal). Anyway ladies, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Posted on 09/14/07, 07:09 pm |

I had a procedure years ago that could have been that. Can you describe what it is and maybe I can tell you? I had no anesthesia so if it IS the same, I can share that info with you.

I had it under general anesthesia and it still was painful after. But at least in the Hospital so, they could assess my pain needs properly after. Ask for a general as it hurts and ask for better pain meds after, too just until the pain of it settles down. Hugs and good luck.

I've not had a hysteroscopy, but I had the endo biopsy last week and I tell you what - I ain't doin' THAT again without some very very good drugs. I couldn't even take an Advil beforehand because I had another procedure scheduled later in the week for which I had to stop aspirin and advil.

I had mine under a general but they already knew I had some other probs that needed doing at the same time.
I found this when I googled: "The Examination This takes only a few minutes and may be done with local anaesthetic injected into the cervix or under a light general anaesthetic. With local anaesthetic some mild cramps may be felt. A speculum, similar to that used during a Pap smear, is placed within the vagina so that the cervix may be seen. The telescope is gently introduced through the cervical canal that is stretched open using carbon dioxide gas or fluid. This gas or fluid then causes gentle opening of the uterine cavity so that the front and back walls are separated and the uterine cavity can be seen. An orderly examination of the cavity is undertaken noting any irregularity of shape, the appearance of the uterine lining, the state of the openings into the Fallopian tubes and the canal through the cervix. It is at this point that a small sample may be taken for the Pathologist." The cramps are from the use of the gas, I believe. Hope this helps!
