hot flashes to chills

A few months ago I had nothing but hot flashes and was always hot....now it seems that I am always cold..goosebumps and all. I went to a coounselor cause I thought I was losing my mind..I didnt recognize myself with all the erratic mood swings I was having...she said I was in menopause....talk about a jaw dropping moment.
Poor hubby has been going thru heck the past few months thinking I was just off my rocker. Is it normal to go from hot flashes to chills? I see the dr this friday...so afraid he is gonna look at me and say you are just a nutcase...you are just depressed.

" Hi,there...you are not a nutcase, first of all. And you certainly are not the only one with hot flashes that followup with chills!! That's me all night long! Hot all day, then hot w/ chills all night. Blanket on, blanket off...my doc said it is very common symptom. I keep ice water on bedside table and blanket at foot of bed. Also dress in layers during day and wear sleevless cotton gowns at night. Target has really cute ones so I don't feel like a total loser...
But, hey you're normal!!Welcome to the fun!! "

" Hi U
Yep ~ I totally agree with all that ladykate has said.
It gets worse at night as you throw the covers off you and then drop off asleep again, then you wake up cold, etc. etc.
I have had a fan installed on my ceiling in the bedroom ~ it works wonders for me.

" Oh yeah, from hot sweats to chill bumps and hard nipples! Doesn't make sense when it's 100 degrees out how we can get cold for a few moments, does it? Black cohosh once in awhile helps me.Other days it doesn't do diddly...so it's blankets on, blankets off! I suppose I must be getting some sort of exercise out of it. No wonder I'm drained by noon! ha. "

" Yes, blanket on, blanket off, blanket on, blanket, off! Night gown off -- hubby happy!? No! too scared to get close to this sweating alien/wife!

This last week the hot flashes have been worse than ever. I had to sleep with an ice pack on my burning face. Also sucking on ice-cubes during the day. I keep taking my temperature, thinking I MUST have a fever. But the thermometer says I am normal. How do women go out in public when they are like this? It is soooo hard! After a day out and about, I come home smelling like I have been working on a cattle farm (okay, I have a tendency to exagerate a little bit....but you get my point, don't you?)

I didn't want to start taking the hormones that my Dr. prescribed me last May, too scared of getting blood-clots like my sister did when she tried them. I finally gave in yesterday and started taking them -- decided I would rather die than live like this. I am hoping it helps -- I'll let you know! "
