Can peri really do this?

Can anyone please tell me if this happens to them? I sometimes wake up during the night with my heart racing so fast it's like I ran a relay. It scares me to death. The following day after this my usual fatigue will be nearly unbearable. The only time I don't feel poorly is when my period skips a month. When this happens it's like a fog has lifted from my brain,I have more energy and I sleep well. But the months I do have a period,it's very heavy for 3 or 4 days,then tapers down to spotting,lasting until a couple of days before the next one is due. So during those times it's like I'm always bleeding,either heavy or light.
I've been having health problems for a year now,and have wondered all along if it's because of perimenopause. I have yet to find a doctor who will help more than just telling me it's something all women go through and you just have to deal with it. Is it possible that some of us can have symptoms so bad they control our lives? Can hormones really do that??? I can't believe how much my life has changed since this started happening. I've been checked from head to toe and haven't been found to have any major health issues except for sleep apnea which I had surgery for in May. But something is causing me to feel horrible most days of the month. I'd just like to know if anyone else out there has perimenopausal symptoms so bad it's nearly crippling.

" I firmly believe perimeno can cause untold symtoms .... heart racing, hair loss, ect ect, you could be subconsiously sp worrying thru the night and not even realising it, which would explain the heart palpitions. It's so easy for people to say stop worrying, but when you don't even realise your doing it it's hard to stop !! I really sympathise with the irregular periods as well, for me that's the hardest to cope with, the emotional rollercoaster is a nightmare,and crippling like you say, I could be liying relaxing on the setee, when all of a sudden I get butterflies in my stomach for no reason !! hang in there hun ... there is light at the end of the tunnel so I'm told !!! " Definitely could be from menopause/perimenopause. I didn't want to take any of the scripts the doctor suggested so I started taking 5htp which helped with the anxiety and moods. A couple of months ago I started taking maca and that has helped with the constant worrying, moods, concentration and overall crappy feeling.

What works for me may not work for you, you just gotta try different things until you find what works for your body. Good luck. i understand where you are at. "

" When this all started for me on 3/15/08, it was for sure unbearable. I went to the ER many times scared to death thinking something was fatally wrong with me. When I found out that I was in peri-meno, I began to relax and just tell myself what it is and it doesn't bother me much anymore. It can cause so many strange symptoms. One of my worst other than loss of sexual appetite is that my heart seems to beat hard and fast at times. It will get better. I still can't believe that we have to go thru this for years. "

" Yes peri-menopause can change your life. My life changed 3/31/2008. Had to even give up working at my office job where I have been working for over 18 years. I would never have imagined that this can happen to someone. It is though my life is put on hold right now. I too have been feeling sick since all this happened and now have lost 20 pounds. I am going to doctors and am happy that my tests are coming out fine. The latest thing with me is shortness of breath and pain where my bronchials are. Also no energy what so ever. I never had anything thing like this before. i am going back to the doctor on friday probably to schedule more tests. All this is costing a fortune that I do not have either. Even though you have health insurance I amstill getting billed. Lets add more stress now on top of everything else. Welcome to the change of life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

" Hi, Ladykemet;
Yes, everything you describe can be chalked up to the hormonal changes that happen during peri and menopause.But I am told they lessen with time and we will begin to feel normal again.
I can especially relate to the waking with the racing heart...that was me all last summer.Just like you all tests were normal,praise the Lord.But the fear and worry about what caused it and the'what if it happens again' nearly stopped me from living. So, read all you can on the symptoms and try a number of things to help you relax into this stage of our lives; keep in touch with like minds...and maybe you might want to look for a more empathetic doc(?)
But you'll feel better as soon as you figure out what works best for your symptoms.Promise you will:) "

" sounds like you're in the beginning stages of perimenopause. Research is what helped me alot . The book "What Doctors may not tell you about Menopause " by John Lee. It is a great Book. It clears up alopt of the confusion you have about the change of Life. There are also numerous Herbs that can help you(e.g. Black Cohosh,St.) I take Vitamins and Minerals that your Body needs especially during that time in you life. I eat healthy. Fruits and Veggies are my main Staple. I try to eat at least 4 different colors a day to get the nutrients from each one. Take cool showers several times aday, Meditate,as well as Praying. Take time out for yourself. And then of course there is DS without these fine Ladies and all their support, makes going through the change a little easier, knowing you're not alone. "

" YES, YES, AND YES!!! LIKE OTHER LADIES HAVE SAID, I NEVER THOUGHT IN A MILLION THAT I WOULD FEEL LIKE I DO. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A NERVOUS SORT OF GAL, ALONG WITH SOME PANIC. BUT ANYMORE I CONCENTRATE MORE ON MY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. THE HOT FLASHES REALLY KICKED IN THIS MONTH. THE LAST TIME I HAD THEM THIS BAD WAS IN NOV. I HAVE TRIED REAL HARD TO GO MED FREE WITH ALL THIS, BUT I THINK I HAVE TO TRY ANOTHER AVENUE. BY THE WAY, I THINK THE HEART PALPS ARE THE WORST:( GOOD LUCK TO YOU WHILE WE ARE ON THIS PATH IN LIFE TOGETHER:) BETTER DAYS TO COME..... "

" I truly believe all of your problems is coming from perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms. I get the heart palpations not often but I still get them. I had been to so many emergency rooms praying that they will find anything that was causing my symptoms from weakness in legs, tingling in face, racing heart, etc. nothing could be found. had my hormone levels tested, guess what i'm in perimenopausal with anxiety. I try to exercise at least three times a week, take vitamins, each fruit, vegetables, almonds. I take deep breaths when I feel anxiety attack is about to come on. Someone wrote that they tried Maca. I husband's friend also suggested that, but I have not tried it yet. I see my OB on Monday and will ask her if this is a good course for me. I pray alot to keep me strong and sane. I also have lack of sexual appetite which isn't going well with my husband, but he understands. I have maybe one good week out of the month. The fatigue just wipe me out. I try to get everything done when I get us early in the morning but by the afternoon I am so tired. Maybe you should try a wellness doctor to also help. I went to one and he gave me some good advice on tackling the symptoms which is to stop dairy, sugar, gluten and other things. Just remember that we are all in this for the long haul. We are women and we can do anything and get through anything. Hang in there. DebbT. "

" Some herbal formulations for peri and menopause are clinically tested and really are a great alternative for us as nature changes it course. With all the cardiovascular and breast cancer risk factors associated with all prescription hormone replacement therapy plus all the unknown risk factors of the prescription bio identicals, I personally looked for a natural alternative treatment. Just as a suggestion, look into Femmerol, I found it to be very helpful. It did give my estrogen and me a boost. Between vitamins and herbs and just healthier eating, I feel so much better and also something very positive for my health as I age. Good luck and good health!! "
