Perimenopause again!

I know that I am whipping this to death but it is only because I became very confused about perimenopause and menopause....so did more research and here is just another tidbit of informatin that I found.

Perimenopause is the length of time before and one year after the final menstrual period, during which ovarian hormonal patterns change. The average age at which irregular cycles develop is approximately age 47 but in many cases can start as early as 35 years old. Like the signs of menopause, this is a normal part of a woman's life cycle. Women can experience many of the same signs of menopause and can find relief with bioidentical hormone therapy. This information I got at a website set up by a female physician whose sole purpose of practice is treating women who are dealing with menopause. Okay now I will leave it alone! Patti

" right again.
perimenopause is the time from your first symptom till the one year anniversary of your last period. that time can be upwards of 15 years. Being post menopausal does not mean the symptoms automatically stop, it is just the technical term for a woman who no longer has periods.
durring peri it is normal to skip several months of periods and then suddenly out of the blue get one again. It is only when you have skipped a full year that you are post menopausal. If there is bleeding after a full year of no periods it would be considered abnormal bleeding, not a period, and would require a doctor visit. "

" Thanks for your information on perimenopausal esp. the part where you can skip several months of periods and then get one out of the blue because this just happened to me. I am 55 and had not had a period for 11 months I thought oh great I am finally going to be free and post menopausal. I guess know such luck yet. But still concerns me and have heard if a period starts 6 months after not having one should be investigated. Looks like I am off to the gyn. This time of life is very stressful we hardly know our own bodies anymore. "
