Medicare Regional Differences in Coverage??
Watch this

My husband requires a surgical procedure that is considered a Medicare Benefit according to national Medicare sources (800 Medicare). Our local doctor who routinely does this surgery is unable to do it because it's not a Medicare covered benefit... and the Medicare rep for the area states that is the case (region is in Texas).

After checking further, I found that the surgery IS a covered benefit in another state and many cases have been approved through Medicare (of course, they don't preapprove anything) at that hospital.

Has anyone heard of Medicare benefit being different region by region??? Is that routine? I haven't come across this situation before. I'm really surprised to find this situation, since we have to travel to get coverage.

This doctor (in Texas) is definitely a Medicare doctor. My husband has had many appointments completely covered as well as one surgery and testing.

I'm wondering if maybe the doctor doesn't want to use Medicare because of lower payment for this surgery? I'm really confused, but we are moving forward otherwise.
