Inability to hear; no physical cause

Hello, for several years now I have been experiencing progressive hearing loss. I first noticed it when I was in about 4th grade or so when I started to fail the hearing tests in school. Every year I would get my ears examined and they would tell me there is no reason for the hearing problem. At this point in time I am having more and more trouble understanding people when they talk. It's like what they are saying is unclear or mumbled or it just doesn't come in like it isn't being processed. It's strange, like I hear but I don't understand. I also have difficulty locating the source of sounds and identifying sounds. I have gone to several doctors including ENTs and audiologists and no one has been able to help me. They each say there is absolutely nothing wrong with my ears; yet I had to have the doctors write it down to tell me. Does any one have any ideas on what could be the problem?

" It sounds like an autonomic problem...
Go do a search with topics that have autonomic in the subject line...

" I don't think it's Meniere's Diease. I have no vertigo or pressure in my ears. My symptoms are that I will be listening to someone and it's like what they are saying doesn't register. Is the best way to put it. That's the main problem. Others are inability to follow long verbal directions or directs that are complicated, trouble locating sounds, distinguishing sounds from one another, distinguishing what a sounds is (IE the cause). The symptomes are highened when there are other noises present like a tv, fan, other people talking and my brain cannot filter out all the noises so they mash together in a heep of nonsense.

I have suggested to all the doctors that it could be an autonomic problem but they all look at me like cock eyed and tell me nothing's wrong.

Is there someone I could visit that could see me and find out it that is what this is without a physican's referal to someone such as a neurologist? "

" Yes. When I was about 10 I was practicing kips and hip rotations on the bar of my dog's kennel (not the smartest idea I know) and my hand slipped and I fell head first on to the supporting ground bar below. I was taken to the hospital but the ER doctor said there was nothing too bad besides some brusing to the crown of my head.

I've also cracked open my head before that, again nothing besides some bleeding.

But as a child I had many.many. many ear infections that doctors could explain why I was having so many.

I have mentioned these to the doctors but they say it doesn't relate because they were so long ago ( These were about 7 and more years ago). "

" I had the same problem with my hearing.....i started going to the Mayo Clinic....which is considered to be one of the best docters.....they told me that my hearing loss is due to a birth defect that i had and it is when the sound nerves do not form correctly. The other docters before told me that there was nothing wrong with my hearing too.....it was because one of my docters accusing me of faking it is the whole reason why i even started going to Mayo. "

" Any other symptoms at all. even if you think nrelated like joint pain or skin rashes or eczema.
I know that old brain injuries can cause problems even years after the incidents. Look at crossroads institute (google it) They do brain mapping and see how the parts of the brain that process things work with other brain systems. Just a thought. "
