I'm trying to quit and feeling strong, but there are temptations that make it harder, like:
• People call me and invite me for a session. • It's suddenly incredibly easy to score. • Other people around me seem to buy weed when I purposely don't have any in my possession (probably because I don't have any and they're used to smoking mine). So i'm thinking 'can't i just smoke up tonight and worry about quitting later?" but I've social events planned for the next couple of weeks and I really need to quit so I can attend. Any advice? I wish I had the self control to only smoke occationally. If I have it I will smoke it daily till it's gone. The last weed I had I just left at my cabin 2 hours away so that I would just smoke it up there but it is all gone and I have seperated myself from the guy I got smoke from here in town. It is undoubtably harder for you because you are young and have many freinds that smoke so it is always around. And I know what you mean about everyone haveing weed now because they have to because you quit buying it. I could easily sneek off to my buddies house and score some weed anytime I wanted and hiding it from my wife wouldn't really even be that hard because I could just smoke right before work. I don't do it because I decided to quit and I draw strenth from myself and from Ya'll when I realize that I can do this and have for 1 day shy of 3 months now. I smoked a hand full of times in that 3 months but not like I was. I hope you can obstain from smoking for another day and I wish you luck and support.

i totally understand your stress.. that pretty much sums up my life.. its the times when you have no money and are like im gonna quit that your friends will show up with a bag and a blunt wrap.. im not sure how to resist this temptation myself.. since all of my friends smoke.. im gonna try to meet some new people who hopefully dont .. but that never seems to pan out.. my best advice is to keep fighting for what you want.. or keep on trying to decrease the amount your smoking.. and im here if you need to talk to someone in the same boat

I know what u mean about feeling like u r the only one buying weed. My mum used to joke that my mates had a sixth sense because my phone always rang when I came home from the dealers with a new batch.
I am at a similar stage to yourself. I want to quit but it wont only be the dope I'd have to give up. It would be some friends as well. This feels like the end of an era but really it will be the beginning of a new life. I am starting to feel like weed is a chain around my ankle and it will be impossible to quit. BUT I have stopped buying quite so much. I'm down from £140 a week to £60/80. I have taken to going to a friends for a free smoke instead of the other way round. Take my advice. A little bit of something bad does u a world of good. To much of the same badness can ruin your life. Limit your smoke to social occasions (if it is acceptable) and only those. Good luck. I'm a message away if you want to chat, some moral support.

I definitely still get those thoughts. Why can't I just smoke once, then I'll go straight. Why can't I just smoke here and there, not all the time. The answer to that is very simple for me. I've tried to smoke on occasion, the way a "normal user" (if there is such a thing) would do. The fact is that I can't. I can't control myself enough to smoke only when it's appropriate. If I smoked right now I would only want to do it again later, and probably would. Then when I wake up I will remember how high I was and want to do it again. Then it will start all over again. That's what I have to remind myself of whenever I have those thoughts.

Yep, that's what they call addiction BigSky. You can't ever smoke that shit again, ever. No, I don't believe there is any such thing as a "normal user" as you put it. That would be implying that people can be responsible drug users. That's an oxymoron. Drug use for the purpose of getting high is irresponsible behavior. I have been clean for 7 months now after fifteen or so years of smoking. Sobriety is good. I still have thoughts about smoking, but I know exactly where that road leads. It leads to that same old door that I've been to many times which opens into a smoke filled room of empty promises and unfulfilled dreams.

be strong!! You will be so proud of youself if you stay strong!! you will fall right back into the circle if you just "one night" think.. people like us don't just "one night" it's all or nothing!! be strong~!! tell the people around you to not smoke infront of you!!

Always inspirational to hear from people that smoked for way longer than I have and managed to get clean and stay that way for longer than I've ever been. Thanks expotman for reminding me that it's not an option for me anymore, that I would only be disappointed if I made the stupid choice to go back to my old ways.
