Lucentis is a NEW DRUG that is a monthly injection for treating age related macular degeneration...a common cause of blindness in people over age 55.
In studies 35-40% of patients receiving Lucentis had clinically significant improvements in vision at 1 year!
Anyone tried it? Anyone want/know any more details? this could be very exciting.

" I could be mistaken, but I believe that my mom was receiving the injections for both her wet eye, as well as her dry eye.

The only thing that I can't tell you is whether or not she had been receiving the Lucentis. She was told that they had to try some of the other options, first, before medicare would cover the newer drugs. "

" I had Macugen injections for a year. Did nothing. I was offered the Lucentis, but they 1)didn't know if Medicaid would pay for it and expected me to pay $360 in front for each treatment and 2) it isn't specific to the eye, like Macugen is and there is the possibility of it causing heart complications (I have heart disease). I just started a new one that I THINK is called "Advanta", which is supposed to be better and less expensive than Lucentis. My doctor can't say with any certainty that ANY of them reverse the condition. They may keep it from getting worse, but there is NO CURE. "
